Security Strategy Summit
Ahead of the inaugural phase of polling scheduled for April 23, which encompasses 152 constituencies, a crucial high-level joint meeting took place in Kolkata.
This gathering brought together the Directors General of various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including the CRPF, BSF, CISF, SSB, and ITBP. The primary aim of this summit was to meticulously refine and finalize the security architecture designed to ensure the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections are conducted smoothly. A spokesperson for the CISF highlighted that the overarching objective is to foster an environment where every citizen can cast their vote without facing any form of fear or undue pressure, thereby guaranteeing a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. This operational alignment is vital for the seamless functioning of the thousands of personnel who will be actively deployed on the ground to maintain law and order during the election period.
Operational Coordination Meeting
The critical security discussions were held at the 3rd Signal Centre, CRPF, located in Salt Lake. This significant meeting was initiated by a senior CRPF officer, serving as the State Force Coordinator. In attendance were the principal leadership from CISF, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, along with representatives from the West Bengal Police and the Election Commission's Police Advisor. The assembled leaders meticulously reviewed the deployment strategies for Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and intensified anti-sabotage checks. This comprehensive review was aimed at confirming that the Integrated Security Grid was fully prepared to effectively counter any potential disruptive elements. The emphasis was placed on seamless coordination with local law enforcement agencies to ensure a unified and robust security presence throughout the polling areas.
Guardians of Democracy
Praver Ranjan, the Director General of CISF, articulated the mission's profound significance, stating that their role in West Bengal extends beyond routine security duties. He emphasized that their core responsibility is to uphold the integrity and sanctity of the ballot. Addressing the personnel stationed on the front lines, Ranjan conveyed a clear and powerful message: they are the appointed guardians of the democratic process. He stressed the imperative for all forces to operate not as isolated units but as a unified entity, an 'One Election Force,' characterized by cohesiveness, strict discipline, and proficiency in leveraging technology. This integrated approach is deemed essential for successfully navigating the complexities of election security and ensuring the democratic will of the people is accurately reflected.
Discipline and Compliance
The CAPF leadership underscored the principle of 'leadership by example.' Senior supervisory officers have been specifically tasked with taking a proactive role, leading from the front lines to consistently maintain exceptionally high standards of discipline and effective turnout among their teams. The operational plan includes a rigorous and comprehensive surveillance of all identified sensitive areas. Furthermore, it mandates the diligent use of the Election Duty Handbook by every single personnel member. This is to ensure absolute and unwavering adherence to all guidelines and directives issued by the Election Commission, thereby guaranteeing that the entire election security framework operates with maximum efficiency and integrity.
