The intensive counting process for the Telangana Municipal Elections 2026 kicked off at 8 am on Friday, determining the fate of candidates across 116 municipalities
and seven municipal corporations. This pivotal electoral exercise, which concluded on Wednesday, saw an impressive voter turnout of 73.01%, indicating significant public engagement. The primary contenders in this keenly watched election were the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Indian National Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), shaping a dynamic three-way contest. The overall election was conducted on a party basis in all the designated local bodies, underscoring the importance of party affiliation in these local governance polls. Preparations for the counting were extensive, with authorities ensuring that the electoral roll revision process was meticulously managed by 29,656 Booth Level Officers prior to the polling day.

The Telangana Municipal Elections 2026 witnessed substantial participation, with a final turnout of 73.01%. The polling data reveals a consistent increase in voter engagement throughout election day, starting at 11.6% by 9 am and reaching 62.09% by 3 pm, before closing at the aforementioned figure. Notably, women voters demonstrated a slightly higher participation rate, with 73.39% of the female electorate casting their votes compared to 72.63% of the male electorate. This election was characterized by a spirited triangular contest, primarily featuring the BRS, Congress, and BJP, all vying for a decisive victory. Leaders from all major parties expressed optimism about their respective performances. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy cast his vote in Kodangal, Vikarabad district, while Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar participated in the electoral process in Karimnagar. State Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud confidently predicted a win for Congress, while Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy of the BJP asserted that his party would secure favorable results despite any perceived challenges.
Incidents and Political Engagements
While the electoral process largely proceeded smoothly, isolated incidents of clashes and arguments were reported from various areas across Telangana. In Karimnagar, for instance, clashes reportedly occurred between BRS and BJP workers at a polling booth, fueled by allegations of bogus voting. The BRS party also formally lodged a complaint, submitting a representation to Hyderabad additional DGP Mahesh Bhagwat, demanding action concerning alleged attacks during the municipal polls. Police intervention was required in Karimganj to manage the situation. In a significant political development, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Delhi a day before the results were due, a meeting that underscored the national party's engagement with the state's electoral outcomes. The outcome of these municipal elections is viewed as a crucial indicator and a test for the political standing of the Congress, BJP, and BRS.
Counting Centers and Arrangements
To facilitate the transparent and efficient declaration of results, authorities have established a total of 123 counting centres across the state. These centres are strategically located to cover all 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The counting of postal ballots commenced first at all these designated locations, followed by the counting of electronic votes. The Police department and the State Election Commission (SEC) have jointly put in place comprehensive security and logistical arrangements at each of the 123 counting centres to ensure the process is conducted without disruption.
