Diabetes Care Expansion
The Tamil Nadu government is actively extending its support for children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, ensuring they receive necessary care across all
government hospitals within the state. Health Minister Ma Subramanian confirmed that the expansion is in motion, aiming to reach a broader segment of the pediatric population affected by the disease. This move highlights the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for those in need. The 'Paadham Padhukaapom' (Save the Foot) scheme, which was first launched in July 2024 by Chief Minister Stalin, forms the foundation of this initiative. The scheme focuses on the early identification of the disease and addressing complications related to diabetic foot issues. These efforts will eventually be rolled out across the entire state of Tamil Nadu with the cooperation of different voluntary organizations that share a similar vision of helping those suffering from diabetes.
Scheme's Geographical Reach
As part of the government’s comprehensive approach, the 'Paadham Padhukaapom' scheme will also be extended to include several key locations within the state. The areas set to benefit from this expansion are Tiruvarur, Namakkal, and Chidambaram. This strategic geographical spread ensures that the benefits of the scheme are readily available to children in multiple districts, thereby promoting wider access to essential healthcare services. Children with type 1 diabetes in these regions will be able to receive the specialized treatment offered at various government hospitals. The government's decision to extend care to these additional regions underscores its commitment to ensuring that healthcare provisions are accessible to all children suffering from this condition, regardless of their location within Tamil Nadu. This expansion strategy aims to establish a more equitable distribution of resources and opportunities for treatment across the state.
