Highway Overhaul Begins
The Delhi-NCR landscape is changing! Four major projects are underway to redefine travel. These include elevated expressways, tunnels, and a new ring road,
all geared towards easing congestion and speeding up commutes. The Ministry of Road Transport, the governments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, and NHAI are working to achieve this.
First Project Unveiled
The first project features an elevated expressway connecting Dhaula Kuan to Manesar, aiming to ease congestion on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. Discussions between Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister Rao Indrajit Singh are expected to finalize the plans in the coming months, providing an effective solution to traffic delays.
Tunneling Through Traffic
The second project focuses on a 5 km tunnel to ease traffic between Dwarka and Vasant Kunj. This signal-free tunnel, costing an estimated Rs 3,500 crore, will have six lanes, allowing high-speed travel. Approved by Union Minister Gadkari, it promises to change the daily commute for many, especially in Delhi.
Third Ring Road's Impact
The Urban Extension Road-2, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will serve as Delhi's third ring road. This 75 km, six-lane highway will reduce travel time and improve regional connectivity, linking Delhi with Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand, making travel outside Delhi more convenient.
Yamuna's Connection Boost
The third project aims to connect the Yamuna Embankment Road to NH-9, improving access to the upcoming Noida International Airport. This project, potentially an eight-lane expressway or a six-lane elevated road, will benefit approximately one million residents, adding to the improved connectivity in the region.
