Journey Begins with Apprehension
Embarking on a trip from London to Nepal, a Pakistani national, Wanzipa, shared her pre-travel jitters. Traveling with a Pakistani passport through India,
a country with a complex diplomatic relationship with her homeland, understandably caused some anxiety. She candidly documented her journey, anticipating potential challenges and expressing her nervousness about the flight and subsequent transit. This initial apprehension highlights the common perceptions and concerns individuals might face when traversing international borders with a passport that could be perceived as a point of scrutiny, setting the stage for a potentially tense but ultimately reassuring experience.
Smooth Mumbai Transit
Upon landing in Mumbai, Wanzipa's initial anxieties began to dissipate as her experience unfolded with unexpected ease. The security checks were completed without any complications, leaving her pleasantly surprised by the normalcy of the process. As she was merely transiting and not entering the country, she bypassed the need for immigration procedures. This meant she remained within the confines of the international terminal for approximately 10 hours, a duration necessitated by the visa restrictions that prevent deplaning without official entry clearance. Her account emphasizes that for transit passengers, the Mumbai airport experience was straightforward and devoid of the complications she might have braced herself for.
An Unexpected Luggage Scare
Midway through her lengthy layover, Wanzipa's calm experience was momentarily disrupted by a WhatsApp message from an Indian number. The message, which alerted her to a 'suspicious' item in her checked-in luggage, naturally caused a surge of concern. However, the situation was quickly resolved and turned out to be a minor issue. She was informed that the 'suspicious' item was simply a power bank, a common travel electronic. The airport staff were understanding and requested her to remove it from her checked baggage. This incident, while initially alarming, ultimately showcased the efficient and reassuring response of the airport personnel.
Warm Hospitality Evident
The incident with the power bank, far from causing further distress, actually highlighted the exceptional kindness of the Indian airport staff. Wanzipa expressed immense gratitude for their supportive and pleasant demeanor throughout her 10-hour stay. She noted that they were 'so lovely' and treated her with warmth and consideration, even during the minor luggage issue. This positive interaction significantly contributed to her overall reassuring experience. After resolving the minor luggage concern, she enjoyed a meal and proceeded to her onward journey to Nepal, leaving Mumbai with a positive impression and a renewed sense of optimism about transit through India.
Positive Endorsement for Transit
Concluding her Mumbai layover, Wanzipa confidently declared that transit through India is indeed very feasible for Pakistani nationals. She confirmed that her extensive research prior to the trip had indicated that staying within the airport premises without a visa was permitted for transiting passengers. Her personal experience validated these regulations and added a personal touch of successful navigation. Her closing remarks, 'Mumbai, we will meet again,' signify a positive shift in her perception and a willingness to travel through India in the future, underscoring that her 10-hour stay was not just uneventful but genuinely pleasant.
