Two Nabbed in UP
Authorities have successfully apprehended two individuals implicated in a significant robbery that occurred at a State Bank of India branch in Surat on
April 27. The arrests took place in Uttar Pradesh, with Subham Kumar Thakur and Vikash Singh being taken into custody from Ayodhya and Gonda districts, respectively. These two are considered primary suspects in the audacious ₹50 lakh heist. Following their capture, they were presented before the Gonda district court. The court granted a four-day transit remand, allowing Surat police to bring them back to Gujarat for further interrogation and investigation. The operation marks a crucial step in unraveling the entire incident and recovering the stolen funds.
Investigation Progress
Assistant Commissioner of Police K.I. Modi from the Surat crime branch expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation, stating that the two apprehended individuals are central to the robbery. He also confirmed that four other individuals involved are still at large, and the substantial amount of looted money is believed to be with them. The Surat police are committed to bringing these absconders to justice. Once the current suspects are in Surat, a thorough interrogation will commence, aimed at extracting details about the whereabouts of the remaining culprits. This information will be vital in planning and executing their subsequent arrests, ensuring a complete resolution to the case.
Key Clues Emerge
A significant breakthrough in the investigation came through the identification of a stolen motorcycle that played a pivotal role in the commission of the crime. Police sources revealed that this particular bike, which had been previously stolen from Telangana, was used by the accused during the Surat bank heist. The criminals had provided an Aadhaar card and other pertinent documentation to the bike's original owner at the time of its purchase, a detail that proved instrumental in tracking them down. This meticulous attention to detail by the investigative team underscores the importance of seemingly minor leads in solving complex criminal cases and bringing perpetrators to justice.
Targeting the Branch
The investigation also shed light on the meticulous planning undertaken by the accused prior to the robbery. They deliberately targeted the State Bank of India branch located on Varachha Road in Surat, based on the assumption that this area, known for its concentration of diamond merchants, would likely hold a significant amount of cash. To gather crucial intelligence, the accused made multiple visits to the bank premises under various pretexts. During these visits, they discreetly observed the number of bank employees present and the general customer traffic, gathering essential information to strategize their operation and maximize their gains during the heist.
