Temple Gates Open
The sacred portals of Shri Kedarnath Dham are set to reopen for pilgrims on April 22, 2026, at precisely 8:00 AM. This significant announcement was made
public on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, following traditional Panchang calculations. The revelation took place at the Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, attended by a distinguished gathering. Among those present were Kedarnath Rawal Bhimashankar Ling, local MLA Asha Nautiyal, and the Chairman of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC), Hemant Dwivedi. This ceremonial declaration marks the beginning of the annual pilgrimage season, allowing devotees to once again seek blessings at this revered Himalayan shrine. The date was meticulously chosen through ancient astrological methods to ensure auspicious beginnings for all who embark on the spiritual journey.
Grand Ceremony & Preparations
The announcement ceremony itself was a vibrant affair, held at the Shri Omkareshwar Temple, which was adorned with approximately 9.5 quintals of flowers. This festive atmosphere was further enhanced by community feasts, or 'bhandaras,' organized by generous donors, and the continuous chanting of 'Jai Shri Kedar' by hundreds of devotees, creating an intensely spiritual ambiance. BKTC Chairman Hemant Dwivedi seized the moment to extend Mahashivratri greetings globally and extended a warm invitation to undertake the Char Dham Yatra, encompassing both Shri Badrinath and Shri Kedarnath. He stressed the urgency of accelerating preparations for the yatra, underscoring its dual importance as a pillar of faith and a driver of local livelihoods. The committee's dedication to respecting and preserving the traditional rights of the Hak-Hakook holders was also reaffirmed during his address.
Ensuring Pilgrim Safety
Under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the BKTC is working in close coordination with the state government. Their collective aim is to facilitate a pilgrimage that is not only safe and exceptionally well-organized but also convenient for every single devotee undertaking the sacred journey. This collaborative effort involves meticulous planning and execution of various logistical and security measures. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has personally assured that extensive preparations are in full swing for the upcoming pilgrimage season, reiterating the state government's unwavering commitment to ensuring the complete safety and security of all individuals participating in the yatra. The opening of the Shri Badrinath Dham gates is scheduled for April 23, a day after Kedarnath, further solidifying the commencement of the Char Dham pilgrimage.
