Registration Essentials Unveiled
The spiritual pilgrimage to Amarnath in 2026 commences on July 3rd and concludes on August 9th. Mark your calendars as the official registration process
kicks off on April 15th. Given the daily cap on pilgrims, it is strongly advised to secure your spot early. You have two primary avenues for registration: the user-friendly official website or the dedicated Shri Amarnathji Yatra mobile application. Both platforms require a valid mobile number and email address for One-Time Password (OTP) verification. Additionally, pilgrims must upload a scanned copy of their Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC), which needs to be issued on or after April 8th, 2026, along with a recent passport-sized photograph. For those who prefer an in-person process, over 500 designated bank branches nationwide will facilitate offline registration on a first-come, first-served basis. This method will involve Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC, with manual registration options available in case of technical glitches. A nominal fee of ₹150 is applicable for each registration.
Eligibility and Mandatory RFID
To ensure the safety and well-being of all pilgrims undertaking the arduous Amarnath Yatra, stringent eligibility criteria have been set. Participants must fall within the age bracket of 13 to 70 years. Women who are more than six weeks pregnant are respectfully requested not to undertake the journey. A valid Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) issued by an authorized doctor is a mandatory document for all applicants. Furthermore, a mandatory RFID card is issued post-registration. This card is crucial for entry at key checkpoints such as Domel and Chandanwari, requiring biometric verification upon collection. Entry without this RFID card is strictly prohibited, underscoring its importance for seamless movement along the pilgrimage route.
Navigating the Sacred Routes
Pilgrims have the choice of two distinct routes to reach the holy cave. The traditional Pahalgam Route, spanning approximately 46 kilometers one-way, offers a relatively gentler ascent and is often recommended for first-time pilgrims. This route provides a more leisurely, though longer, experience. In contrast, the Baltal Route is considerably shorter at around 14 kilometers one-way but is steeper and presents a more demanding trek. For those seeking an alternative, helicopter services are available on both routes, providing access up to Panchtarni, which significantly reduces the trekking distance. The choice of route should be made considering one's physical fitness, prior trekking experience, and desired pace for the pilgrimage.
Key Guidelines and Facilities
It is important to note that bookings for the yatra will close seven days prior to your scheduled travel date. The authorities also permit group registrations, with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 30 individuals per group. Each permit issued will clearly indicate the designated route and the confirmed travel date. To assist pilgrims, help desks are readily available at all registered bank branches, providing support and information. Along the pilgrimage route, essential facilities such as tent accommodations, medical camps, and provisions for food and basic supplies are made available to support the devotees. However, given the challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, thorough physical preparation remains paramount for a successful and safe yatra.
