Monsoon's Destructive Grip
Since June 20, the monsoon's impact has been devastating, claiming 261 lives. 136 deaths were due to rain-related incidents like landslides and floods,
while 125 were due to road accidents. The state faces ongoing challenges in Mandi, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti districts, where heavy rain continues to cause disruptions.
Roads, Power Hit Hard
A total of 352 roads, including three national highways, remain blocked, disrupting connectivity across the state. The situation has also impacted power supply, with 1,067 power distribution transformers (DTRs) disrupted. Additionally, 116 water supply schemes have been affected by the ongoing weather conditions, impacting various communities.
Kullu's Heavy Toll
Kullu district has been severely impacted, with 557 transformer disruptions reported. Mandi and Lahaul-Spiti districts have also been affected, with 385 and 112 disruptions, respectively. The combined impact has cut off 15 panchayats near Pagal Nala, severely impacting access for local residents in the area.
Restoration Challenges
Restoration efforts are underway, but progress is slow due to persistent landslides and rainfall. Officials face difficulties in high-altitude regions. A dramatic video from Kullu shows a massive landslide, highlighting the scale of the ongoing devastation, and the challenges faced by the state.
Grim Situation Persists
The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) continues to monitor the situation. The state grapples with blocked roads, power outages, and water supply disruptions. The grim reality is evident across affected regions, demanding sustained support and coordinated relief efforts across the state.
