Free Ride Ahead!
Commuters can now experience the newly operational Ganga Expressway, a significant 594-kilometer corridor linking Meerut and Prayagraj, without incurring
any toll charges for the initial 15 days. This introductory period, expected to last until around May 13th, is a strategic move by the Uttar Pradesh government to encourage public adoption and familiarity with this state-of-the-art infrastructure. The aim is to allow a broad audience to experience the enhanced connectivity and reduced travel times offered by this greenfield project, thereby promoting its use for future journeys. This period serves as a trial run, enabling travelers to appreciate the quality of facilities and the efficiency of this vital new artery for Uttar Pradesh.
Post-Free Period Costs
Following the conclusion of the 15-day complimentary access, regular toll collection will commence on the Ganga Expressway. For a single trip covering the entire 594 km stretch in a car or jeep, the estimated toll is approximately Rs 1,800. The charges increase significantly for larger vehicles; buses and trucks can expect to pay over Rs 5,700 for the same journey. For heavier, multi-axle vehicles, the toll is projected to be close to Rs 9,000, and oversized trucks could face charges exceeding Rs 11,000 for a one-way passage. These rates are indicative and will apply across the expressway's various segments, reflecting the different vehicle classes and the infrastructure's capacity.
Project Vision & Execution
The Ganga Expressway, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 29th in Hardoi, has been meticulously developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, employing the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) framework. This approach allows private concessionaires, M/s IRB Infrastructure and M/s Adani Infrastructure, to manage toll collection for a period of 27 years. To facilitate the initial toll-free period, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) issued directives to defer toll collection. The state government has committed to compensating the concessionaires for any revenue forgone during this 15-day "rebate" period, ensuring the project's financial viability while prioritizing public access and awareness. This initiative underscores the commitment to familiarizing the public with the expressway's world-class amenities and smooth operational flow.
