In a scene that defied belief, a video emerged from Mumbai's Sion Hospital showcasing an injured man, identified as 27-year-old Rohit Pawar, exhibiting
remarkable composure. Despite a machete deeply embedded in his head, Pawar was observed calmly standing within the hospital premises, engaging with his mobile phone. This unusual display of equanimity in the face of a grievous injury captivated and bewildered onlookers and online viewers alike, prompting widespread discussion and disbelief regarding the severity of his condition and his reaction to it. The footage quickly went viral, sparking a barrage of comments and questions about the immediate medical response and the patient's state of mind during this critical juncture.
The Attack Unfolds
The disturbing incident originated from a street altercation that occurred late at night near the PMGP Colony area in Mankhurd. According to initial police reports, the confrontation stemmed from an unresolved earlier dispute between Rohit Pawar and another local individual named Gautam. During the subsequent altercation, three minors allegedly confronted Pawar. One of the minors is believed to have wielded the machete, inflicting the severe head wound, while the others reportedly resorted to physical assault, including punches and kicks. Pawar's father, Nagnath Pawar, recounted that Rohit had left home to meet friends shortly before the attack, underscoring the sudden and unexpected nature of the violence. The injured man was initially transported to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi before being transferred to Sion Hospital for further treatment.
Medical Survival Explained
Medical professionals at Sion Hospital provided critical insights into how Rohit Pawar managed to survive such a devastating injury. Doctors explained that the machete, while lodged deeply, miraculously missed vital brain regions responsible for critical functions. Dr. Batuk Diyora, Head of Neurosurgery at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Sion Hospital, elaborated that the weapon traversed the skin, muscles, skull, and protective layers of the brain without impacting major neural structures. This fortunate trajectory allowed Pawar to remain conscious and retain his motor skills and ability to communicate. The subsequent medical procedures, including CT scans and angiograms, were reportedly complex and time-consuming due to the weapon's precarious position, highlighting the risks involved in its removal. Rohit remains under observation, as doctors monitor for potential long-term complications such as seizures, motor deficits, or speech impairments.
Investigation and Aftermath
Following the incident, law enforcement swiftly acted to apprehend those involved. Police confirmed the detention of the three minors implicated in the attack, who were subsequently transferred to the Dongri Children’s Home. Authorities are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity of the assault to corroborate details and identify any additional individuals who may have been involved. The investigation aims to establish a clear sequence of events leading up to the violent confrontation and ensure justice for the victim. The focus remains on gathering all pertinent evidence to support the ongoing legal proceedings against the perpetrators.
