The Momo Addiction
The incident unfolded in Bhagwanpur Tiwari village, under the Rampur Karkhana police station. The student, who resided in the village to pursue his studies,
developed a regular habit of consuming momos. Initially, the vendors sold him the street food in exchange for cash. However, when his money ran out, they reportedly convinced him to bring jewelry from his home, promising to exchange the ornaments for the snacks. Over several days, the boy allegedly kept giving away gold items from the family's cupboard to the youths. The boy's actions came to light when his aunt visited the house and enquired about her jewelry, leading to the discovery of the missing ornaments and the subsequent revelation of the events that had transpired.
The Missing Jewelry
The family was in for a rude shock when they opened the cupboard and found all the ornaments missing. The student admitted to handing over the jewelry to three youths running a momo stall at Dumri Chauraha, located on the Deoria–Kasya road, police said. The boy’s father, Vimlesh Mishra, who is a temple priest in Varanasi, filed a complaint. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against three accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 305 (theft) at Rampur Karkhana police station. The value of the jewelry given away was around Rs 85 lakh. Authorities have begun their investigation and are working to recover the stolen jewelry and catch the final suspect.
Police Action & Arrests
Acting swiftly, the police have already arrested two of the suspects – a young man and a woman. Some of the stolen jewelry has also been recovered. However, the third suspect remains at large, and the police are actively working to apprehend him. The Circle Officer, Sunil Reddy, confirmed the arrests and mentioned that police teams are conducting raids to trace the remaining suspect. Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Kumar Singh also affirmed that the police acted immediately upon receiving the complaint. The authorities have not disclosed the names of the arrested individuals at this time.
