Convenient New Transport Option
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently inaugurated a novel prepaid taxi service operating out of the Tutikandi Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT)
in Shimla. This service is managed by the Taxi Union and boasts a fleet of 115 vehicles. The network is designed to serve a comprehensive range of 26 distinct locations within Shimla city, in addition to providing vital links to two major hubs in the neighboring state: Chandigarh International Airport and Chandigarh city itself. This expansion signifies a significant upgrade in public transportation accessibility and convenience for travelers and local commuters alike, aiming to streamline journeys and reduce potential travel-related hassles.
Seamless Booking and Payment
The operational procedure for this prepaid taxi service is straightforward and designed for passenger ease. Travelers intending to use the service must first proceed to the dedicated prepaid taxi counter located at ISBT, Tutikandi. Here, they will book their desired ride and complete the payment for their journey. Upon successful transaction, passengers will be issued a payment slip. This slip is a crucial document that must be presented to the designated taxi driver before commencing the trip. Once the driver safely delivers the passenger to their specified destination, they are required to return to the ISBT counter and submit the payment slip. This step allows the driver to receive their remuneration for the completed journey, ensuring a structured and accountable system.
Revised Fare Structure
The Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has established and communicated revised fare rates for the prepaid taxis operating on a point-to-point basis from Shimla's ISBT. These updated fares, formalized under the Himachal Pradesh Pre-Paid Taxi Scheme-2004, aim to provide clarity and predictability for passengers. Specifically, the fare from ISBT, Shimla, to Chandigarh (City) has been set at Rs 3,000 for a standard taxi and Rs 5,000 for a maxi cab. For those heading to Chandigarh International Airport, the fare is Rs 3,500 for a taxi and Rs 5,500 for a maxi cab. These fixed rates are intended to prevent any discrepancies or disputes regarding charges, offering peace of mind to all users.
Enhanced Passenger Benefits
The implementation of this prepaid taxi system is expected to yield substantial benefits for both tourists and the local populace. By ensuring that fares are paid in advance at a designated counter, passengers are effectively shielded from the possibility of facing unforeseen charges or disagreements with drivers during or after their trips. A government spokesperson highlighted that this advance payment mechanism eliminates inconvenience and potential disputes over fare calculations. Chief Minister Sukhu further emphasized that the initiative promotes transparency, as the Transport Department has officially notified the fare rates. This move is also seen as a significant step towards bolstering passenger safety and ensuring a more reliable and trustworthy travel experience for everyone utilizing the service.
