Devastating Loss in Ambikapur
A somber event unfolded in the Ambikapur region of Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, where a 13-year-old boy named Ravi tragically passed away. He reportedly
fell ill shortly after indulging in watermelon. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a hospital, his condition worsened, and he ultimately succumbed. Local authorities have swiftly initiated a thorough investigation into this alarming incident. Crucially, samples of the watermelon consumed have been collected and sent for rigorous testing. The administration is also awaiting the detailed post-mortem examination results to definitively determine whether the fruit was the direct cause of death due to contamination or if other underlying factors were at play. Assurances have been made that no stone will be left unturned in uncovering the complete truth behind this devastating loss.
Concerns Mount After Second Fatality
Adding to the district's distress, a 16-year-old teenager, identified as Ravi Kumar, also met a similar fate in Surguja's Ambikapur area following watermelon consumption. He too experienced severe illness shortly after eating the fruit and, like the younger boy, passed away despite being rushed to a local medical facility. While initial suspicions point towards potential food poisoning, official confirmation hinges on the comprehensive post-mortem report. In response, the district administration has collected watermelon samples for detailed laboratory analysis. Residents have been advised to exercise heightened caution when consuming fresh produce, including fruits and vegetables, as authorities work diligently to prevent any recurrence of such unfortunate events. This disturbing situation has amplified concerns regarding food safety standards within the region.
Multiple Illnesses in Janjgir-Champa
In a separate but equally concerning incident within Chhattisgarh, the Janjgir-Champa district reported a fatal outcome for a 15-year-old boy, Akhilesh Dheewar, from Ghurkot village. This tragedy was compounded by three other children falling gravely ill after consuming cut watermelon. The affected children, who hailed from different villages and had gathered for a family function, allegedly ate watermelon that had been sliced earlier in the day and left exposed for several hours. Shortly after consumption, they began experiencing severe vomiting and discomfort. Akhilesh tragically died during treatment at a nearby healthcare center, while the other three children were reported to be in stable condition. Doctors suspect bacterial contamination and food poisoning as primary causes, pending forensic examination. Additionally, three other watermelons that remained uncut at the residence were also sent for examination to aid the ongoing investigation.
