Terminal Readiness and Features
The Noida International Airport's terminal building is remarkably close to operational readiness, with approximately 80% of the construction complete.
The interior gleams, featuring a polished floor crafted from locally sourced red granite, creating an aesthetically pleasing and sustainable foundation. Essential elements like electrical fittings, comprehensive CCTV security systems, and a fully functional gas supply are in the final stages of installation and are expected to be finalized imminently. This meticulous attention to detail ensures a smooth and efficient passenger experience from the outset. Furthermore, Terminal 1 is an expansive 137,985 square meters, equipped with 48 check-in counters and 20 baggage drop-off stations. To expedite passenger flow, there will be nine dedicated security lanes. Initially, ten domestic gates will be outfitted with aerobridges, facilitating seamless boarding for domestic travelers.
Phased Development and Capacity
Spanning an impressive 1,334 hectares, the Noida International Airport is meticulously planned for development across four distinct phases. Upon completion of the initial phase, the airport is projected to handle a significant passenger volume, with an anticipated capacity of 12 million passengers per annum. Complementing this passenger capacity, a substantial 3,900-meter runway is already prepared and awaiting the commencement of flight operations. The airport's strategic location in Jewar, Greater Noida, approximately 40 km from Pari Chowk, positions it to serve a vast demographic, including residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), as well as key areas in Western Uttar Pradesh. This development will bring the Capital city in line with Mumbai, offering two major airports to cater to its burgeoning air travel needs.
Operational Launch and Airlines
With the physical infrastructure nearing completion, the focus shifts to operational clearances. The airport awaits the finalization of the Airport Security Program (ASP). Following its successful completion, operations are anticipated to commence with domestic flights within a 45-day timeframe. Officials from Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) have indicated strong interest from several major airlines, including IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa. Once the ASP is finalized, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will oversee the allocation of flight slots. International and cargo flight services are slated to begin by the end of the current year, further expanding the airport's reach and capabilities. The airport's design itself is intended to be a cultural showcase, reflecting the rich traditions and heritage of Uttar Pradesh, including its significant holy cities and revered rivers.
Sustainability and Passenger Comfort
Beyond its operational readiness and capacity, the Noida International Airport is a testament to modern environmental consciousness and passenger-centric design. The terminal architecture maximizes natural light, reducing the need for artificial illumination. Seating areas in the waiting halls are thoughtfully designed with bamboo, adding a touch of natural aesthetic and sustainability. To support the transition to greener transportation, the airport will feature charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs), and the airside operations will be powered by an all-electric fleet of vehicles. Passengers will benefit from advanced technological integrations, such as the Digiyatra app, allowing for a seamless journey from terminal entry to the boarding gate. While plans for an RRTS (Rapid Rail Transit System) connection are in development, the airport will initially rely on conventional transport options like taxis and buses to connect with the city.
