Metro Line 9: Instant Commuter Relief
The inauguration of Metro Line 9 between Kashigaon and Dahisar marked a significant triumph for residents of Mira Road and Bhayander. This new corridor
has dramatically eased their daily commutes, effectively bypassing the notorious traffic congestion at Dahisar check naka. Commuters are reporting journey times reduced by approximately 15 to 20 minutes, transforming their travel experience. The integration with the existing Metro Line 7, extending up to Gundavali, has further enhanced connectivity, allowing seamless travel to central business districts like Andheri. This surge in ridership is expected to bolster the overall daily average of Metro lines 2A and 7, which already see substantial usage, by at least 1 lakh additional passengers.
Metro Line 2B: A Muted Beginning
In stark contrast, the eastern section of Metro Line 2B, stretching from Mandale to Diamond Garden, experienced a considerably less enthusiastic launch. Early observations on its opening day indicated very low passenger numbers, with one station staffer noting only around 250 travelers by late afternoon. Commuters expressed that the current route, while operational, lacks crucial links to key commercial centers and doesn't connect with the monorail system, limiting its practical utility for many. The true potential of this line is widely anticipated to be unlocked once it is extended to connect major hubs like Kurla, Bandra, and Andheri. Interestingly, unlike previous metro inaugurations, official ridership figures for Line 2B's first day were not released by the MMRDA at the time of reporting.
