Deception and Exploitation
Authorities have apprehended a man identified as Hassam Ahmad, who had been impersonating a resident doctor at the prestigious King George's Medical University
(KGMU) in Lucknow. Ahmad's alleged activities extended beyond mere impersonation; he is accused of orchestrating a sophisticated religious conversion racket. His primary targets were female medical students from KGMU and at least two other institutions. Investigators revealed that Ahmad specifically approached Hindu women, luring them with deceptive promises. In one alarming instance, he presented fraudulent letters, ostensibly inviting students to attend a conference at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, a ruse to gain their trust and potentially isolate them. This elaborate deception formed the bedrock of his illicit operation, preying on the aspirations and trust of aspiring medical professionals.
The 'Cardio Seva Sansthan' Scam
Further investigation into Hassam Ahmad's activities uncovered an organization he established, named 'Cardio Seva Sansthan Trust.' This entity was allegedly used as a front to transport young women to camps situated in areas with a predominantly Muslim population, facilitating the conversion process. Adding a layer of intrigue and potential complicity, the group display picture (DP) for the 'Cardio Seva Sansthan' prominently featured the photograph of Dr. KK Singh, a spokesperson for KGMU. Ahmad was also reportedly charging fees from patients, an additional fraudulent activity alongside his conversion scheme. He is currently in police custody, with ongoing interrogations aimed at uncovering the full extent of his network and operations.
Triggering the Investigation
The unearthing of this extensive racket was prompted by allegations brought forth within KGMU itself. The university administration formed an internal committee in response to accusations that a resident doctor, identified as Rameez Uddin Nayak, had sexually exploited a female colleague. This exploitation allegedly occurred under the pretense of marriage and involved coercion for religious conversion to Islam. Coincidentally, this internal inquiry committee is chaired by Dr. KK Singh, whose image was utilized by Ahmad in the 'Cardio Seva Sansthan' DP, creating a tangled web of connections. The initial complaint detailed how Dr. Nayak allegedly pressured his colleague, also a medical professional, to convert and subsequently blackmailed her, claiming he was unmarried and promising marriage.
A Web of Complicity
The investigation into Dr. Rameez Uddin Nayak's alleged wrongdoings revealed a pattern of coercive behavior and manipulation. The complainant stated that Dr. Nayak met her during their studies in Agra, where he allegedly converted and later married a Hindu woman. Police reports indicate that Dr. Nayak also orchestrated religious speeches within the hostel premises. The complainant further alleged that in February 2025, Nayak coerced her into religious conversion before taking her to Pilibhit to solemnize their marriage. As the inquiry expanded, law enforcement identified and apprehended several individuals believed to have assisted in the conversion process. These arrests included Dr. Nayak's parents, Salimuddin and Khadija, along with a local cleric and a witness from Pilibhit, underscoring the organized nature of the operation.
