Unfortunate Airport Encounter
At Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, an incident unfolded on the tarmac involving a parked IndiGo aircraft and a catering truck.
The vehicle, identified as a third-party unmanned unit operating on the apron, made contact with the stationary aircraft. While the exact cause of the vehicle's movement remains under investigation, the outcome was a minor collision. IndiGo confirmed the occurrence, stating that the relevant airport authorities had been duly informed about the event. This mishap occurred on April 7, 2026, and fortunately, no injuries were reported among airport personnel or any individuals present at the time. The focus immediately shifted to assessing the impact on the aircraft and ensuring the continuation of flight operations.
Aircraft Assessment and Flight Repercussions
Following the collision with the catering truck, the affected IndiGo aircraft was promptly taken out of service and grounded for a comprehensive inspection and necessary maintenance. The airline spokesperson emphasized that the aircraft would only be cleared for further operations once all safety checks were completed and any required repairs were finalized. The flight that was scheduled to be operated by this particular aircraft, identified as 6E 6663 from Kolkata to Guwahati, faced a delay. However, IndiGo swiftly arranged for an alternate aircraft to ensure that passengers booked on this route could still reach their destination with minimal disruption. This proactive measure aimed to mitigate the inconvenience caused by the grounding of the original plane.
Airport Operations Uninterrupted
Despite the unexpected contact between the catering truck and the IndiGo plane, flight operations at Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport experienced no significant disruptions. Airport officials confirmed the incident and reiterated that the damage to the aircraft was assessed as minor. The necessary repairs were initiated to ensure the plane's swift return to service. The report indicated that no passengers were on board the aircraft at the precise moment of the collision, further minimizing potential risks. The incident, though unfortunate, highlights the stringent protocols in place at major airports to manage and resolve such occurrences while keeping the overall flow of air traffic as smooth as possible.
