Tata Trusts' New Faces
Neville Tata, 32, the son of Noel Tata, has recently joined the board of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT). This represents a notable elevation within
the Tata organization. Veteran Bhaskar Bhat has also been appointed to the board. These decisions are a result of amendments to Venu Srinivasan's trustee position, which has been changed to a three-year term. This change aligns with new government rules. The appointment of Neville Tata by Tata Trusts places him in a significant role within the Tata organization. His father, Noel Tata, chairs the Tata Trusts. These appointments, according to an ET report, strengthen Noel Tata's position. This positioning should ensure a strong future for Neville in the family business.
Neville's Career Path
Following his graduation from Bayes Business School, Neville Tata began his career at Trent in 2016 within the packaged foods and beverages division. Subsequently, he took on leadership of Zudio, a value fashion retailer that has expanded rapidly throughout India. Neville currently serves on the boards of the JRD Tata Trust, the Tata Social Welfare Trust, and the RD Tata Trust. Sources suggest that he might join the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT). The SRTT and SDTT control over 51% of the shares in Tata Sons, the group's primary holding entity. Neville's career reflects his ongoing commitment within the Tata enterprise.
Bhaskar Bhat's Legacy
Bhaskar Bhat, 71, an IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, began his professional journey in 1978 as a management trainee at Godrej & Boyce. He then transitioned to the Tata Watch Project, which later became Titan. As managing director from 2002 to 2019, Bhat guided Titan's diversification from watches to segments including eyewear, jewelry, fragrances, accessories, and sarees. Under his leadership, the company's market value rose to approximately $13 billion. At the time of his departure, Titan was the second-largest listed company in the Tata Group. Bhat's contributions shaped Titan's growth and market position.
