In a grim turn of events, a family in Mumbai's Pydhonie district has experienced an unimaginable loss, with four members succumbing to what is believed
to be severe food poisoning. The deceased include a 40-year-old father, his 35-year-old wife, and their two daughters, aged 16 and 13. The incident unfolded on the night of April 25th, when a gathering of nine family members, including close relatives, shared a meal. This gathering was followed by a late-night consumption of watermelon by the four individuals who would later tragically pass away. The severity of their condition escalated rapidly, leading to a race against time for medical intervention.
Sudden Onset of Symptoms
The harrowing ordeal began in the early hours of April 26th, when the four family members started exhibiting critical symptoms. Reports indicate that between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM, after consuming watermelon, they began experiencing intense vomiting and diarrhea. Initially attended to by a local family doctor, their condition worsened significantly, prompting an immediate referral to JJ Hospital for advanced medical care. Despite the swift medical attention, the health of the victims deteriorated rapidly. The younger daughter was the first to pass away around 10:15 AM, followed by the father later that same night at approximately 10:30 PM. The mother and elder daughter also tragically succumbed while undergoing treatment, marking a profound loss for the surviving relatives.
Ongoing Investigation
Following the unfortunate deaths, post-mortem examinations have been conducted on the victims, identified as Abdullah Dokadia (40), Nasreen Dokadia (35), Aisha (16), and Zainab (13). However, the definitive cause of death remains pending, awaiting the results of histopathological reports. A formal Accidental Death (AD) case has been registered by the JJ Marg Police Station as authorities continue their thorough investigation into the matter. Preliminary statements from family members suggest that the group had consumed biryani prior to eating the watermelon later that night.
