Get ready for faster commutes! The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and a major stretch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) have opened, promising
a big relief for Delhi residents.
Expressway Unveiled
The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and part of UER-II were inaugurated on Sunday. The Delhi section, built for Rs 5,360 crore, offers multi-modal connectivity. The Haryana section, inaugurated in March 2024, is about 19-km long. The event was attended by key leaders, marking a significant step towards better connectivity for Delhi and surrounding areas.
Key Features Highlighted
The expressway provides connectivity to Outer Delhi areas. UER-II will help reduce garbage mounds, and the trip from Singhu Border to IGI airport will reduce from two hours to 40 minutes. The 66-km Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II is now open. It also includes an eight-lane wide, 3.6 km long tunnel.
Connectivity Boosts
UER-II is expected to divert traffic, reducing congestion at key points. It offers direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, improving connectivity to industrial hubs. With the new links, travelling to Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Mumbai will be faster. It promises to be the backbone of high-speed connectivity, expanding Delhi’s reach.
Economic Impact Foreseen
The projects aim to ease congestion, boost connectivity, and create economic opportunities. Officials believe UER-II will facilitate faster movement of goods across the National Capital Region. The combined cost of the projects is nearly Rs 11,000 crore. This development is a crucial step forward for the city's infrastructure and growth.
