Unusual Runway Intruder
An IndiGo flight, identified as 6E6521, en route from Lucknow to Raipur with approximately 170 passengers on board, encountered a highly unconventional
obstacle just as it was commencing its takeoff roll. The Airbus A320-251N aircraft had received the green light from Air Traffic Control and had begun accelerating down runway 09, originating from the Kanpur highway end. However, mere moments into its journey down the tarmac, approximately 200 meters into the roll, the vigilant flight crew spotted an unexpected visitor: a monkey making its way across the active runway. The immediate and paramount concern for the pilots was to prevent any potential collision with the animal, leading them to make the critical decision to abort the takeoff.
Delayed Departure, Thorough Checks
Following the aborted takeoff, the IndiGo aircraft safely vacated the runway and returned to the apron. The initial scheduled departure time for the flight was 8:55 A.M., but this unforeseen event necessitated a considerable delay. After the runway was thoroughly inspected and confirmed to be clear of any animal presence, and following a comprehensive review of the aircraft's systems to ensure everything was functioning optimally, the flight was eventually cleared for departure. The plane ultimately took to the skies for Raipur at 10:04 A.M., marking a departure delay of over an hour, all thanks to the brief, yet impactful, appearance of the simian interloper.
Rare Aviation Incident
According to official sources cited by news outlets, this occurrence marked a truly unique event in aviation history for the region, being the first recorded instance where air operations were halted due to the presence of a monkey on the runway. Airport authorities, upon being alerted to the situation, ensured that the runway was meticulously cleared of any further monkey activity. This precautionary measure was vital before permitting other aircraft to continue their landings or departures, underscoring the commitment to safety and the swift resolution of such rare but significant disruptions to normal flight schedules.
