its final stages, the much-awaited corridor is slated to officially open its gates on April 28, 2026. This ambitious project, which represents a substantial investment of approximately ₹370 crore, aims to transform the daily commute and freight movement between these two prominent Uttar Pradesh cities. The expressway is designed as a six-lane, access-controlled route, connecting the Amausi area in Lucknow to the Azad Chowk area in Kanpur. Its impending launch is eagerly awaited by many who currently endure lengthy travel times on conventional routes, setting the stage for a more efficient and expedited journey.
Dramatic Time Savings
The impact of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway on travel duration is nothing short of transformative. Currently, the journey between Lucknow and Kanpur can consume anywhere from 2.5 to 3 hours, often exacerbated by substantial traffic congestion. Once operational, this new expressway is engineered to slash that travel time dramatically, reducing it to an estimated 35 to 45 minutes. This remarkable reduction is facilitated by the establishment of a maximum speed limit of 120 kilometers per hour, set by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has established a clear and comprehensive toll structure for the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, ensuring transparency for all users. For passenger cars, Jeeps, and SUVs, a one-way trip will incur a charge of ₹275, while a return journey within a 24-hour period is offered at a discounted rate of ₹415. Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) will face a toll of ₹445 for a single passage and ₹670 for a round trip. Heavy transport, encompassing buses and trucks, will have a one-way toll of ₹935 and a return toll of ₹1,405. For specialized vehicles like Heavy Construction Machinery (HCM), the toll is set at ₹1,020 for a single journey and ₹1,530 for a return trip. These rates are designed to accommodate a range of vehicle types and travel patterns.
Safety Restrictions
To maintain the high-speed integrity and overall safety of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, specific vehicle restrictions have been implemented. To prevent potential hazards and ensure smooth traffic flow at the permitted 120 km/hour speed, certain types of vehicles are prohibited from using the main lanes. These include two-wheeled vehicles such as motorcycles and scooters, as well as three-wheeled vehicles like auto-rickshaws. Additionally, all smaller vehicles classified as slow-moving are also barred from the expressway.
