A Home to Cherish
Singer Neeti Mohan and her dancer sisters, Shakti and Mukti Mohan, have created a breathtaking three-storey penthouse in Mumbai, a testament to their love
for their parents. Perched on the 29th floor of a high-rise, this expansive residence is not just a home but a statement. Interestingly, the sisters themselves do not reside here; it is exclusively occupied by their parents. The motivation behind this grand gesture stemmed from a desire to defy outdated societal perceptions where daughters were sometimes viewed as 'liabilities.' The sisters aimed to provide their parents with an unparalleled living experience, ensuring they never felt the absence of a son. This luxurious property, valued in crores, was conceived as a way to lavish their parents with comfort and security, especially as they missed the spacious, open-style living they were accustomed to in their Delhi home, finding Mumbai's apartment culture a stark contrast.
Delhi Vibes in Mumbai
The Mohan sisters shared insights into their family's cherished Mumbai penthouse during a tour, revealing it has been their family's dwelling for nearly a decade. They explained that their Delhi upbringing instilled in them a deep appreciation for spaces that embrace nature and offer views of the sky, such as terraces designed for watching sunrises and sunsets. Mumbai's urban landscape, while vibrant, lacked this connection to nature and open space, which their parents particularly missed. To recreate that familiar and comforting 'Delhi feeling,' the sisters infused the penthouse with a distinctly Delhi-style aesthetic. This is evident in the design of their expansive living room, dining area, and terrace, all characterized by a cheerful and colourful palette, offering a warm and inviting ambiance that resonates with their roots.
A Green Sanctuary
One of the most captivating features of the Mohan sisters' penthouse is the overwhelming presence of nature, with an astonishing 400 plants adorning nearly every nook and cranny. The sisters playfully attribute this abundance of greenery to having four daughters, suggesting that each plant is a symbolic representation of their presence. They emphasized that the intention was to fill the home with life and vibrancy, mirroring the warmth and abundance of a large family. During their visit, the family delighted in sharing traditional homemade delicacies, including Rajasthani gatte ki sabzi, Gujarati dhokla, and dahi bhalla, further enhancing the home's hospitable atmosphere. The discovery of the property itself was serendipitous; while visiting a neighbor, the sisters were drawn to the terrace's unobstructed 360-degree panorama, where they could even gaze at the stars, a rare sight in the city.
Pampering with Space
Shakti Mohan recounted how the idea for acquiring this spacious property largely originated from her elder sister, who felt strongly about keeping their parents exceptionally pampered. The sisters recall instances where relatives would make their parents feel disheartened by referring to their daughters as 'liabilities.' To counteract such negative sentiments and to ensure their parents felt cherished and never confined, the sisters envisioned a substantial home that would offer ample space and freedom. Despite their professional commitments often being centered in areas like Bandra, this particular three-storey apartment, offering the desired space, was only available in Thakur Village. This strategic choice underscores their commitment to their parents' comfort and well-being above all else, providing them with a luxurious and expansive environment.
