Pipeline Project Unveiled
The Calangute panchayat has taken action to resolve the persistent water scarcity issue in the Suntavaddo area by implementing a new water pipeline. This
project is directly aimed at benefiting approximately 100-120 houses situated in the vicinity of the Baga parking and fishing jetty. A panchayat member confirmed that the recently completed pipeline is intended to provide a stable water supply, addressing the concerns of residents who have long struggled with inadequate water access. This initiative reflects the local authorities' dedication to enhancing infrastructure and catering to the basic needs of the community, ultimately promoting a better quality of life for those residing in the affected areas.
Treated Water Initiative
Simultaneously, efforts are being made to utilize treated sewage water for sustainable practices in Calangute. The local MLA, Michael Lobo, has proposed supplying treated water from the sewerage treatment plant (STP) at Baga to the hotels for their gardening needs. The current practice of hotels purchasing tanker water for gardening purposes has prompted this innovative solution. A pipeline is being planned to transport the treated water, making it readily available for hotels to utilize. Lobo has emphasized that the water will undergo complete purification through a new treatment plant at the STP, with the goal to avoid releasing the treated water into the Baga River. The vision is to extend this pipeline up to the Taj in Sinquerim, ideally before the end of the MLA's term in office, aiming for a significant impact on resource conservation and efficient water management.
