Key Voting Events
Several prominent figures cast their votes, including Nitin Gadkari, Uddhav Thackeray along with his family, Devendra Fadnavis, and Eknath Shinde. Additionally, several celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar, Salman Khan, Amir Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, and Rajat Kapoor participated in the voting process. However, the election day was marked by some issues. Reports indicated problems with voter lists, with actress Saumya Tandon struggling to find her name. BJP leader Ganesh Naik also faced difficulties while voting, attributing the issues to the Election Commission (EC). A brawl erupted in Mumbai's Ghatkopar, raising concerns over ink quality.
Allegations and Probes
The elections were not without controversy. There were allegations of ink being wiped off, leading to voter protests and sparking concerns among voters. Videos surfaced showing alleged ink removal, which prompted the poll body to launch a probe. Several political figures, including Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, made claims regarding the ink. Concerns about bogus voting and cash distribution were also raised. In response to the ink-related issues, the State Election Commission addressed the claims. Minister Ashish Shelar called for action against those allegedly involved in ink removal. The BMC, however, rejected claims regarding the wiping off of indelible ink.
Exit Poll Predictions
Exit polls offered insights into the potential outcomes of the elections. Several exit polls, including those by Axis My India and JVC, predicted a significant victory for the BJP and its allies. Axis My India projected a massive win for the BJP in BMC polls. Other polls suggested that the alliance led by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray would be a distant second. The Sakal exit poll also provided a glimpse into the BMC election results. These projections heightened anticipation for the actual results. All eyes were on the exit polls as the voting concluded, giving the public an idea of what to expect in the official results.
Post-Voting Reactions
Following the conclusion of voting, various political leaders and public figures shared their reactions. Uddhav Thackeray criticized the ruling Mahayuti government, calling it 'shameless', and called for the suspension of the State Election Commissioner. Senior leaders from the BJP expressed confidence, stating that Mahayuti would have the mayor in all 29 municipalities. Sachin Tendulkar and Gulzar urged voters to participate in the democratic process. Other public figures like Vishal Dadlani also pointed out fundamental issues. The focus now shifts towards the vote counting day, as the public awaits the official election results.
