Unforeseen Contact at Bay
An unsettling incident unfolded at Kolkata Airport's parking bay number 51 when a catering vehicle, reportedly unmanned, veered off course and made contact
with a parked IndiGo aircraft. The collision, which occurred in the evening, resulted in the aircraft sustaining minor damage, primarily to one of its engines. Investigations suggest the vehicle rolled forward, leading to the unfortunate contact with the stationary plane. This event immediately necessitated the grounding of the aircraft to ensure passenger safety and aircraft integrity.
Aircraft Taken Offline
Following the incident, IndiGo confirmed the situation, stating that a "third-party unmanned vehicle on the apron moved and came in contact with a parked IndiGo aircraft." As a precautionary measure and to conduct essential checks, the affected aircraft, which was scheduled to operate flight 6E 6663 to Guwahati, has been taken out of service. The airline is committed to a thorough inspection and necessary maintenance before deeming it fit for flight operations again. IndiGo assured that they are cooperating fully with the authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event and ensure such occurrences are prevented in the future. An alternative aircraft has been arranged to ensure minimal disruption to the flight schedule.
