Serene Mountain Haven
Nestled at approximately 4,800 feet, this luxurious eco-retreat offers breathtaking vistas of the majestic Himalayas and verdant pine forests. A mere two-hour
journey from Chandigarh transports you to this serene sanctuary. Actress and environmental advocate Bhumi Pednekar recently shared glimpses of her experience at Amaya, a sustainable haven designed to harmonize with nature. The retreat, located near Darwa village in Kasauli, champions eco-conscious practices through its minimalist yet elegant aesthetic. Pednekar's shared moments capture her walking along tranquil stone paths, surrounded by meticulously terraced fields and invigorating mountain trails, embodying a peaceful connection with the natural landscape. These shared snapshots not only highlight the visual beauty but also Bhumi's immersion in the quietude and mindful living that the retreat promotes.
Ryokan-Style Design
Amaya's architectural brilliance is credited to Bijoy Jain of Studio Mumbai, who conceptualized the retreat across 20 acres of revitalized terraced forestland. Each villa is a testament to hand-built craftsmanship, meticulously constructed without the use of cement. This approach blends traditional artistry with modern comfort, creating an experience reminiscent of a Japanese 'ryokan'. The property's commitment to sustainability extends to its food philosophy, emphasizing 'forest-to-table' dining. Years ago, the initiative began with rejuvenating ancient farming terraces, fostering a belief that food should ideally be sourced locally to minimize travel. Consequently, the retreat now cultivates a diverse array of organic vegetables on-site and has planted numerous fruit trees, including apple, pear, plum, mulberry, fig, and citrus varieties, ensuring fresh, seasonal produce is readily available.
Luxurious Stays
Amaya offers a diverse range of accommodations, comprising 15 rooms spread across its various villas. Guests can choose from Chalet Suites, Cottages, and Private Villas, each expansive and thoughtfully designed. The standard one-bedroom Chalet or Cottage, offering captivating mountain views, is available for between Rs 42,000 and Rs 45,000 per night. For those seeking a bit more space and functionality, upgraded suites that include dedicated study areas are priced between Rs 54,000 and Rs 60,000 per night. A more intimate one-bedroom villa, covering approximately 1,450 square feet, can be booked for around Rs 75,000 per night. The ultimate indulgence is found in the expansive three-bedroom private villas, perfect for larger groups or families, with a nightly rate of Rs 1,50,000.
Culinary Delights
Bhumi Pednekar's experience at Amaya also highlighted the retreat's exceptional culinary offerings, focusing on a 'forest-to-table' philosophy. Her curated breakfast spread exemplified this commitment, featuring wholesome granola adorned with vibrant pomegranate seeds, an assortment of fresh fruits, freshly baked assorted breads, and revitalizing smoothies, even including a touch of white wine. Beyond these delightful meals, guests have the opportunity to engage in traditional cooking methods, learning to prepare authentic Himachali dishes. This hands-on approach to cuisine not only offers a taste of local flavors but also provides a deeper connection to the region's culinary heritage, aligning perfectly with the retreat's overall ethos of mindful and sustainable living. Pednekar herself expressed her delight, sharing, 'Moments of pure joy.'
