Gujarat Expansion Plans
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), India's leading car manufacturer, has announced a significant investment in Gujarat. The company's board has approved
an investment of Rs 4,960 crore for land acquisition and preparatory activities at Khoraj Industrial Estate, located approximately 30 km from Ahmedabad. This investment will facilitate the establishment of a second passenger vehicle manufacturing plant in the state. The new facility is projected to add an annual capacity of 10 lakh passenger vehicles, significantly boosting MSIL's overall production capabilities. The expansion is a crucial component of Maruti Suzuki's long-term strategy to establish Gujarat as a primary hub for manufacturing and exporting vehicles, solidifying its presence in the region.
Capacity Boost at Hansalpur
In addition to the new plant, Maruti Suzuki is also enhancing its existing manufacturing capabilities in Gujarat. The company currently operates a plant in Hansalpur, which already boasts a production capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum. During the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, Maruti Suzuki declared its plans to set up a fourth production line at Hansalpur. This strategic move aims to accommodate the anticipated rise in electric vehicle production in the years ahead. The fourth line is slated to become operational between 2026 and 2027. Upon completion, the annual production capacity at Hansalpur will increase from the present 7.5 lakh units to 10 lakh units, augmenting the company's capacity to fulfill the growing demand in the market.
