A New View
Delhi is embracing a fresh approach to tourism with the introduction of an innovative electric double-decker bus service, aptly named 'Dekho Meri Dilli'.
This initiative, launched to bolster the city's appeal as a tourist destination, offers a unique perspective on its most cherished landmarks. The bus, a 63-seater marvel, is equipped with modern safety features and amenities, but its standout element is the panoramic upper deck. This design is specifically crafted to provide passengers with unobstructed, sweeping views of the Capital's historical and cultural treasures as they glide through the city. The service operates daily, commencing its journey from Delhi Haat at 9 am, promising an accessible and enjoyable way for both locals and visitors to experience the essence of Delhi.
Historic Circuit
The 'Dekho Meri Dilli' service charts a meticulously planned route, designed to showcase a rich tapestry of Delhi's prominent sites. Beginning its daily expedition from Delhi Haat, the journey winds its way through significant locations such as Vijay Chowk, the grandeur of Rashtrapati Bhavan, and the administrative heart of North and South Block. The tour continues to cultural institutions like the National Museum, the National Gallery of Modern Art, and the poignant Prime Ministers’ Museum, before reaching the solemn National War Memorial and the iconic India Gate. The circuit then gracefully returns to its starting point at Delhi Haat, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging exploration of the Capital's heritage and modern marvels. This thoughtful curation ensures passengers gain a deep appreciation for Delhi's multifaceted identity.
Affordable Journeys
To make this enriching experience accessible to a wide audience, a clearly defined fare structure has been established for the 'Dekho Meri Dilli' tour. The standard ticket price is set at Rs 500, with an additional 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST) applied. For younger travelers, a special concession is available: children aged between 5 and 10 years can avail tickets for Rs 300, plus 5% GST. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, children younger than five years old are permitted to travel free of charge, ensuring families can enjoy this unique sightseeing opportunity together without significant financial burden. This pricing strategy aims to encourage broad participation and popularize the new tourism service.
Booking & Revival
Securing a spot on the 'Dekho Meri Dilli' double-decker bus is a straightforward process. Tickets can be conveniently booked online through the official Delhi Tourism website, offering a hassle-free digital solution for travelers. For those who prefer in-person purchases or require assistance, tickets will also be available at several designated physical counters. These include the Central Reservation Office and the I-Centre located at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Terminal 1 of IGI Airport, the Transport Office in West Kidwai Nagar, and additional counters conveniently situated near Delhi Haat. This initiative also marks a nostalgic revival, bringing back the familiar sight of double-decker buses, which were once a common feature of Delhi's public transport system before being phased out in 1989.
Eco-Conscious Tourism
Beyond its tourism enhancement goals, the 'Dekho Meri Dilli' initiative strongly emphasizes sustainable and clean mobility. The Chief Minister highlighted that the introduction of zero-emission electric buses aligns with the national call for 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi,' signifying a commitment to balancing development with heritage preservation. By utilizing electric power, the buses significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions and air pollution in the city, supporting a healthier environment. This eco-friendly approach not only elevates Delhi's image as a responsible tourist destination but also appeals to the growing segment of environmentally conscious travelers. The plan is to eventually deploy two such double-decker buses to further enhance the service's reach and capacity.
