Phu Quoc Visa Nuances
Indian citizens often find themselves drawn to the allure of Phu Quoc Island, a beautiful destination in Vietnam. It's important to note that while an entry
waiver exists for Phu Quoc, this exemption is strictly limited to the island itself. Without prior arrangement of a valid Vietnamese visa, venturing beyond Phu Quoc to mainland cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City is prohibited and can lead to significant trouble. Recent incidents highlight the challenges faced by travellers who, due to unforeseen circumstances such as medical emergencies or flight cancellations, needed to access mainland services. These situations have resulted in substantial delays, travel impediments, and serious immigration-related complications for those who did not possess the correct visa for mainland entry. The Embassy strongly advises securing an appropriate visa for Vietnam before embarking on your trip, even if your itinerary is solely focused on Phu Quoc, to preempt any potential immigration hurdles.
Lost Passport Procedures
The Indian Embassy has also noted a concerning trend of Indian nationals losing their passports while travelling in Vietnam. If you find yourself in this unfortunate situation, immediate action is crucial. First, you must report the loss to the local police in the area where the passport went missing, obtaining an official report of the incident. This police report then needs to be submitted to either the Indian Embassy in Hanoi or the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City. The Embassy will then issue an Emergency Certificate or a Travel Document, which is necessary for your onward travel or repatriation. However, it's vital to understand that even after receiving this emergency document, Vietnamese authorities typically require between 3 to 5 working days to process an Exit Permit. In some instances, this process might even extend beyond that timeframe. During this waiting period for the Exit Permit, Indian citizens are required to remain in Vietnam. Adhering to these procedures is essential for a safe and compliant travel experience.
