Birthday Bash Turns Grim
What was intended as a cheerful birthday celebration for a young boy named Satvik in Gorakhpur quickly devolved into a distressing ordeal for his family
and friends. On a Wednesday afternoon, a group of approximately twenty people gathered at a Barbeque Nation outlet located within a local mall. The initial part of the meal, comprising starters, proceeded without incident. However, the atmosphere took a sharp and unpleasant turn when the main course was served, leading to a confrontation that would soon capture public attention. The group had a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences, indicating a diverse dining party looking forward to a pleasant meal.
Unwelcome Discovery in Main Course
The celebratory mood dissipated as diners transitioned to the main course. The unsettling incident occurred when one of Sachin Verma's friends, who was partaking in the non-vegetarian biryani, made a disturbing observation. Having already consumed their starters and just beginning to enjoy the biryani, the friend spotted a small, dead cockroach nestled on their plate. This shocking discovery immediately halted the meal for several individuals at the table, casting a dark shadow over the entire occasion and raising serious questions about the establishment's food preparation and handling standards. The presence of such a contaminant in a main dish is a significant breach of expected culinary practices.
Complaint and Viral Video
Following the unsavory incident, Sachin Verma voiced his profound dissatisfaction, lodging a formal complaint and accusing the restaurant of egregious lapses in hygiene and cleanliness. To further highlight the issue and alert the wider public, members of the group took the initiative to record a video documenting the situation within the restaurant. This footage was subsequently disseminated across social media platforms, where it rapidly gained traction, becoming a viral sensation and amplifying public concern over the food safety standards at the Gorakhpur establishment. The immediate sharing of the video underscored the urgency and public interest surrounding the event.
Management Acknowledges Error
In the wake of the widespread backlash and media attention, the management of the Barbeque Nation outlet addressed the incident. The manager openly admitted to a "mistake" having occurred, stating, "I admit that a mistake has happened. However, we take full care of cleanliness. We don’t know how this happened or where it came from." While acknowledging the error, the manager also emphasized the restaurant's commitment to maintaining cleanliness, expressing bewilderment over the specific circumstances that led to the cockroach's presence in the food. This admission, though, did little to quell the public's unease.
Official Inspection and Notice
Prompted by the complaint and the viral video, the local food department swiftly intervened to investigate the matter. Dr. Sudhir Kumar Singh, the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, confirmed that an inspection of the restaurant premises revealed unhygienic conditions. Following these findings, the establishment was issued a formal notice, mandating that they rectify the identified issues. Furthermore, the restaurant was instructed to cease operations temporarily until a subsequent re-inspection could verify their adherence to all mandated safety and hygiene protocols. This decisive action highlights the seriousness with which food safety violations are being treated.
