A Record-Breaking Creation
A colossal chocolate train, stretching an astounding 55.27 meters, has earned a place in the Guinness World Records for its unprecedented length. This
edible behemoth, a testament to culinary artistry and dedication, was meticulously handcrafted over several months by a collaborative team of skilled chocolatiers and aspiring students. Weighing an impressive approximately 2,300 kilograms, the sculpture showcases a vintage rail icon design that left onlookers in awe. The creation process involved extensive hand-sculpting, emphasizing intricate details and a commitment to artisanal craftsmanship, transforming a dream into a tangible, delicious reality. The sheer scale and complexity of this project highlight the extraordinary capabilities of food artistry to merge indulgence with imaginative design, elevating common treats into spectacular, jaw-dropping displays.
The Mastermind and His Team
Spearheading this monumental chocolate undertaking was Maltese pastry chef Andrew Farrugia, affiliated with Malta's Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS). He collaborated with Italy's Consorzi di Pasticcerie Bergamo-Brescia, bringing together Italian and Maltese chocolatiers, along with enthusiastic students from various educational institutions. This ambitious project saw them dedicating months within the Minetti 1980 labs, meticulously crafting each carriage using premium Belcolade Italia chocolate sourced from Puratos Italia. The logistical challenges were managed by professionals from Brivio & Viganò, who ensured the seamless transportation of components for the final assembly. Significantly, this wasn't Farrugia's inaugural record-breaking attempt; he had previously achieved recognition for a 34.05-meter chocolate train in 2012 and another creation in Brescia in December 2025. The entire train, designed with a vintage steam aesthetic, was brought to life with edible precision and weighed around 2,300 kilograms.
Handmade with Precision
The entire chocolate train sculpture was a product of meticulous manual labor, with every decorative element, from the locomotive's roof to the intricate designs on the carriages, being hand-sculpted. The creation process commenced in October 2025, and absolutely no molds or shortcuts were employed. Each component was painstakingly shaped by hand to achieve the authentic appearance of a vintage rail icon. This dedication to artisanal methods ensured a level of detail that captivated the public, drawing significant attention until its display concluded on February 20. The absence of any manufactured aids in the construction process underscores the immense skill and patience invested by the team, resulting in a truly unique and impressive edible artwork that celebrates traditional craftsmanship.
Social Media Frenzy
The unveiling of the colossal chocolate train ignited a firestorm across social media platforms, with the post garnering a deluge of comments, likes, and shares. Netizens expressed their astonishment and delight at the sheer scale and edible nature of the creation. Many humorous remarks flooded in, with one user playfully asking, "That is too big. Can we travel by this?" Another user quipped, "Finally, a record I'm willing to help demolish," hinting at the irresistible allure of the chocolate. A third commenter eloquently captured the overwhelming appeal, stating, "55 meters of chocolate. My sweet tooth can't handle this." This enthusiastic public reaction highlights the universal appeal of such grand culinary feats and the joy they bring to people worldwide.
