Advanced 6G ML Program
The Indian Institute of Science's Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) has unveiled an advanced online program focused on Machine Learning (ML) for upcoming
6G wireless communication systems. This specialized course is scheduled to commence on May 4 and conclude on July 29, 2026. Live instructional sessions are conveniently arranged for Mondays and Wednesdays, running from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM, catering to working professionals and students. The program is under the academic guidance of Prof. Sudhan Majhi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), who aims to equip participants with critical insights into next-generation wireless technologies. This initiative is part of the CCE Proficience Programme, which is dedicated to offering postgraduate-level education in specialized engineering and scientific fields.
Eligibility & Fees
To be considered for this immersive learning experience, prospective candidates must possess a Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree, or a PhD in a related academic discipline. Additionally, fourth-year undergraduate students pursuing a BE or B.Tech are also eligible to apply. A foundational understanding of wireless communication principles and basic Python programming is a prerequisite for enrollment. The total cost for this comprehensive course is Rs 23,954, inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST). This fee breaks down into a principal course charge of Rs 20,000 and an application fee of Rs 300, with both amounts subject to an 18 percent GST. Applications are to be submitted exclusively through the official online admissions portal managed by the institute.
AI & 6G Focus
The curriculum for this course places a significant emphasis on the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) within the physical layer of communication systems. Participants will explore adaptive transmitter and receiver designs engineered to enhance communication performance and substantially reduce signal latency. The syllabus is meticulously crafted to align with the latest advancements in 3GPP standards, which increasingly integrate AI and ML into their research frameworks for 6G. Key learning areas include various ML methodologies such as supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised learning. Furthermore, the course will cover the implementation and application of popular ML models including Support Vector Machines (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Deep Neural Networks (DNN), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. Practical application through Python programming and the concept of transfer learning will also be integral parts of the study.
Technical Modules Explored
The technical modules offered in this program provide in-depth coverage of essential wireless communication systems. Key topics include Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM), Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO), and Orthogonal Frequency-Time Division Multiplexing (OTFS). Participants will also delve into advanced subjects such as Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoding, modulation classification techniques, and sophisticated channel estimation methods. The course extends to practical applications like Compressed Sensing (CS) for channel state information (CSI) compression, beamforming strategies, Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction, and efficient spectrum sensing. All these discussions are framed with reference to current and emerging 3GPP standards. Signal estimation techniques leveraging AI and ML are a core component, covering parameter estimation, symbol rate estimation, and synchronization error estimation (STO and CFO). Resource allocation strategies, including spectrum sharing and power distribution, are also thoroughly examined.
Program Structure & Credential
The CCE Proficience Programme, of which this 6G ML course is a part, operates as a collaborative venture between the Indian Institute of Science and esteemed professional institutions situated in Bengaluru. The courses are predominantly delivered in evening hours, primarily through synchronous online modes, ensuring accessibility for professionals. Upon successful completion of all coursework and examinations, participants will be awarded grading certificates, officially issued by IISc, acknowledging their achievement. This program is specifically curated to benefit a broad audience including university professors, research scholars, postgraduate students, and industry professionals hailing from diverse science and engineering backgrounds, aiming to foster continuous learning and skill enhancement in specialized technological domains.
