A New Era of Style
Chennai-based design house CRCLE, a celebrated winner of the R|Elan Circular Design Challenge, made a significant statement at Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI
2026 with its inaugural collection titled ‘DIALOGUE’. This presentation was more than just a display of garments; it was a profound exploration of how circular design principles can be seamlessly integrated into contemporary menswear. CRCLE's ethos, as spearheaded by its founder, is deeply rooted in harmonizing traditional Indian craft with cutting-edge material innovation and an unwavering commitment to sustainability. The brand actively collaborates with an extensive network of artisans, numbering over 100 individuals, and partners with more than 50 distinct craft communities spread across the Indian subcontinent. This collaborative approach allows for the incorporation of diverse and eco-conscious materials, including fibres treated with natural dyes, intricately handwoven textiles, and even repurposed industrial waste, transforming them into pieces that tell a story of responsible creation and enduring quality. This initiative represents a significant step towards a more conscious fashion industry, proving that style and sustainability can, indeed, walk the runway hand-in-hand, offering a vision for a more responsible and aesthetically rich future in fashion.
Crafting Conscious Threads
The ‘DIALOGUE’ collection from CRCLE was meticulously designed to foster a deeper connection between the materials used, the skilled artisans who create them, and the individuals who ultimately wear the finished pieces. This philosophy underscores a commitment to creating garments that are not merely transient trends but are built for longevity and adaptability, emphasizing tactile qualities that invite a more intimate wearer experience. In essence, the collection acts as a narrative, guiding us back to more deliberate and thoughtful production methods, a stark contrast to the fast-paced nature of modern fashion consumption. The designer’s vision for ‘DIALOGUE’ is to re-establish a meaningful link between the creation of clothing and a slower, more intentional approach to how fashion is made and consumed. This shift encourages a mindful appreciation for the journey of each garment, from its raw components to its final form, promoting a culture where quality, durability, and the human touch are valued above fleeting novelty. This dedication to a conscious design process ensures that each piece contributes to a more sustainable and meaningful fashion landscape.
Platform for Innovation
The R|Elan Circular Design Challenge, a pivotal initiative developed through a collaborative effort between Reliance Industries Limited, the United Nations in India, and Lakmé Fashion Week, plays a crucial role in nurturing emerging talent focused on circular solutions. This program provides invaluable mentorship and opportunities for international exposure to designers like CRCLE, empowering them to advance their sustainable innovations. The organizers are keenly focused on elevating India's standing within the global movement towards circular fashion. Through strategic initiatives, including plans for an Indo-French collaboration, the platform aims to broaden its global footprint and influence. By championing designers who are at the forefront of sustainable practices, the challenge not only fosters individual growth but also collectively propels the nation towards becoming a leader in environmentally responsible fashion, encouraging a paradigm shift in how clothing is conceived, produced, and consumed on a worldwide scale.
