Ed Sheeran Reveals How Shah Rukh Khan Helped Him Make His Bollywood Debut
Ed Sheeran has finally made his Bollywood debut with Tu Mil Jaaye from Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film King. The global music sensation took to Instagram to share the story behind the collaboration, revealing that it was Shah Rukh who first encouraged him to create a song for one of his films.
Recalling their first meeting, Ed shared how the Bollywood superstar had expressed his wish to have a song by him in his next movie. Over the years, the two developed a close bond, eventually leading to their musical collaboration for King.
Ed wrote, "When i first met Shah Rukh, he said i must make a song to be in his next movie and also be my first Bollywood song. We’ve got to know each other over the years and i love him."
Sharing how the song came together, Ed revealed that his last visit to India played a significant role in making the collaboration happen. The singer had visited Shah Rukh Khan's residence, Mannat, to request the superstar to make a cameo appearance in the Sapphire music video, featuring Ed and Arijit Singh. It was during this visit that Shah Rukh introduced him to music composer duo Sachin-Jigar. The introduction soon turned into a musical collaboration, with Ed writing and recording his verse for Tu Mil Jaaye on the very same night.
He recalled, "Last time i was India i went to his house to get him to shoot a cameo in the Sapphire music video for me and @arijitsingh. He introduced me to @sachinjigar that day and i wrote and recorded my verse for Tu Mil Jaaye for his movie King that night." The collaboration is particularly special for Ed as it brings together several artists he admires. The song features Arijit Singh alongside the British singer, with Sachin-Jigar composing the track and Kumaar penning its lyrics. Ed has also written the English rap featured in the song.
Expressing his excitement about sharing the track with Arijit, Ed added, "I love that Arijit is singing on it with me too, all my favourite people on one project."
