What is the story about?
Jailer 2, featuring Rajinikanth and helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has set a new benchmark at the Tamil box office. The action film has grossed approximately
Rs 720 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk data cited in reports, placing it ahead of Rajinikanth’s 2018 release 2.0. The achievement puts the sequel at the top of the all-time worldwide collection chart for Tamil films. With the film continuing its theatrical run, it is likely that it will hit the Rs 1,000 crore mark and become the first Tamil film to achieve that feat.
Jailer 2 Moves Ahead Of 2.0 Worldwide
Rajinikanth’s latest film has beat2.0 to claim the title of the highest-grossing Tamil film worldwide. The reported Rs 720 crore collection marks a significant achievement for the actor, whose popularity continues to bring audiences to cinemas even at the age of 75.
The sequel follows the success of Jailer (2023), bringing back Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
Despite its worldwide record, Jailer 2 has yet to surpass 2.0 in India. Reports put the 2018 film’s domestic collection at approximately Rs 520 crore, while Jailer 2 has reportedly earned around Rs 467 crore from Indian theatres.
The possibility of Jailer 2 reaching Rs 1,000 crore worldwide has become a talking point as its theatrical run continues. Reports suggest that the film has been earning close to Rs 25 crore a day in India, with overseas markets contributing to its overall tally. The arrival of new releases could affect its run. Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 are both scheduled to open in theatres on November 6, bringing competition to the Tamil box office.
