What is the story about?
Thalapathy Vijay is going through a very busy phase right now. He is preparing for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections while also waiting for his final
film Jana Nayagan to release. On top of that, legal cases have been piling up against him. But on Monday, he got some good news from court. The Madras High Court dismissed a petition that questioned the financial details he shared in his election papers. This is a big relief for Vijay as he steps into politics full-time.
Madras High Court Dismissed Plea Against Vijay
A Chennai resident named MP Venkatesh had filed a petition in the Madras High Court. He claimed that Vijay had hidden or wrongly shown financial details in his election affidavit for the Perambur constituency. He asked for a probe by the Income Tax Department and the Election Commission of India.
The petition pointed to loans of crores of rupees given to family members, while Vijay's affidavit declared zero liabilities. The petitioner said this was contradictory and misled voters. He argued it violated election laws and a citizen's right to make an informed choice.
However, a bench of Chief Justice SA Dharmadhikari and Justice Arul Murugan dismissed this plea and refused to entertain it. This gives Vijay a clear win in this particular case.
It is important to note that another separate petition is still pending. That petition, filed by a different person, claims that over Rs 100 crore was not disclosed by Vijay in one of his two constituency affidavits. The High Court had earlier issued notice to the Election Commission and Income Tax Department in that case on April 20. That matter is still ongoing.
What Is The Status Of Jana Nayagan?
Jana Nayagan has been stuck in a long delay due to issues with the CBFC censor certificate. The Thalapathy Vijay starrer was originally scheduled to release in October 2025 but was delayed to January 9, 2026, and then delayed again due to a censorship issue.
KVN Productions submitted the film to the CBFC on December 18, 2025, but a final certificate was not issued despite the makers agreeing to cuts. The producers then approached the Madras High Court in January 2026, saying the delay was causing massive financial strain.
The CBFC revising committee finally watched the film on March 17, 2026. Reports suggested a May 2026 release was being planned. However, Amazon Prime Video reportedly withdrew from the film's OTT deal in March 2026, citing the ongoing certification delays.
The film's piracy leak also caused a major setback, with distributor Tirupur Subramaniam estimating losses of Rs 300 to 400 crore due to the film being circulated online. As of now, no official release date has been confirmed by producers KVN Productions.
