What is the story about?
R Madhavan was conferred with the Padma Shri on Tuesday, June 23, by the President Droupadi Murmu. The ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi
and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries. This was the second civil investiture ceremony. The first one took place on May 25.
R Madhavan Honoured For His Outstanding Contribution In Cinema
R Madhavan has been awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, for his contribution to Indian cinema. The Padma Awards 2026 was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the eve of Republic Day 2026.
Madhavan has acted in more than 50 films across Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and other languages over a career spanning more than 25 years. He became famous with Alai Payuthey (2000) and Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001). He also appeared in popular films like Anbe Sivam (2003) and Aaytha Ezhuthu (2004). His biggest hit back then came with 3 Idiots (2009) alongside Aamir Khan. Later, he impressed audiences with Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), Vikram Vedha (2017), and Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022), which he also directed. Most recently, he appeared in the highest-grossing Indian franchise Dhurandhar, playing a character inspired by IB Chief Ajit Doval.
How R Madhavan Reacted To Padma Shri Win
After the recipients of Padma Awards 2026 were announced back in January, R Madhavan took to social media to express his gratitude and penned a long note. He wrote, "THANK YOU ALL SO VERY VERY MUCH I accept the Padma Shri with profound gratitude and humility. This honor, bestowed upon me, is beyond my wildest dreams, and I receive it on behalf of my entire family, whose constant support and faith have been my greatest strength."
Madhavan highlighted that the recognition was possible only because of the blessings of his 'mentors, the goodwill of well-wishers, the love and encouragement of the public, and above all, the grace of the Almighty'.
He added, "I consider this not just an award, but a responsibility. I promise to carry this honor with dignity, sincerity, and a deep sense of commitment to the values it represents. My heart is filled with gratitude for this extraordinary endorsement and validation, and I hope to continue serving with integrity, humility, and dedication in the years to come."
