Veteran actress and dancer Madhumati died at the age of 87. The performer is known for her terrific dancing skills in the films from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Who was Madhumati?
Akshay Kumar paid tribute to Madhumati by sharing a throwback picture with her on X. He captioned the post as, “My first and forever guru. Everything I know about dance, I learnt at your feet, Madhumati ji. Har ada, har expression mein aapki yaad hamesha saath rahegi. Om Shanti.”
In the picture, one can see Akshay Kumar sporting a thin moustache. This picture is from the early days of his career when he took dance training from Madhumati’s dance academy in Mumbai. In 1986, Akshay Kumar learnt dancing from Madhumati with Chunky Panday, who was also his classmate.

Madhumati was born in 1938 in a remote village of Maharashtra. At the age of 19, she got married to Deepak Manohar against her wish. Her mother wanted her daughter to marry Deepak due to her admiration for him. For the unversed, Deepak Manohar was a widower and had four children with his late wife.

In 2002, Madhumati’s husband, Deepak Manohar, passed away. Since then, she had been staying alone. Madhumati started her career in 1957 with an unreleased Marathi film.
Madhumati was a trained classical dancer. She knew Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Manipuri and Kathakali. Owing to her skills, she performed in several movies. Some of her memorable films were Ankhen, Tower House, Mujhe Jeene Do, Shikari, Amar Akbar And Anthony, Chhoti Bahu and others.
Her demise has indeed left the entire film industry in shock. Madhumati’s death is a big loss for the Indian cinema.
