What is the story about?
Obsession is set to crawl into our living rooms with its uncut version. The horror thriller and one of 2026's biggest blockbusters is set to release digitally
in India sooner than we can imagine. Directed by Curry Barker and starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, the film blends supernatural horror with a disturbing story about love and desire. After its theatrical mayhem earlier this year, the movie is finally gearing up to land on the OTT, and that too in its unedited cut, taking excitement to the next level. This also comes as Obsession is eyeing several nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards 2027.
Obsession OTT release date and platform
The viewers will get to watch the original uncut version of the film just in time for Halloween. For the Indian audience, the movie will be available to stream in English and Hindi on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar after its theatrical premiere which happened in India on May 29. The OTT debut is set at 7 PM, looking to showcase the film in its entirety.
The site announced the digital launch on social media revealing that the audience would be able to see the original unedited version in the two languages. The announcement read, "THE WAIT IS OVER! THIS HALLOWEEN, ONE WISH COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING. Obsession: The Original Uncut Version, streaming 30th October, 7 PM onwards on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar. Available in English and Hindi.”
It is timed right before Halloween on October 31, making it an alternative for audiences looking for a supernatural horror watch during the Halloween season. The uncut release is a key highlight of the digital premiere, allowing audiences to experience the film in its original form.
Previous CBFC axe
In May, it came to be known that ahead of its debut in Indian theatres, the movie was certified by the Central Board of Film Certification. According to the certificate that circulated on the internet, the Indian CBFC asked the makers to make a few modifications. Besides anti-smoking and anti-liquor static messages, the censor board demanded edits, as Obsession includes violence and intimate scenes.
According to the viral censor board certificate, the CBFC asked the makers of Obsession to "reduce the scene of extreme violence" and "delete the scene of graphic sexual activity". Besides this, they were instructed to "replace visuals with nudity." A total of 38 seconds of the film were asked to be removed. After the censor board's approval and clearance, the final runtime of Obsession came down to 110.29 minutes.
About Obsession
Obsession is about Bear (Michael Johnston), a music store employee who has feelings for his childhood friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette). Bear gets his hands on a mystical item that makes his dream come true: Nikki falls in love with him. But what appears to be an opportunity to realise his goal at first turns into a horrific ordeal. The wish turns dark, and something happens that neither character can readily escape from.
The film explores how desire and obsession can become dangerous when love is forced rather than freely chosen. Its supernatural premise drives the story into increasingly unsettling territory, making it a horror drama centred on the frightening consequences of getting exactly what one wishes for.
Reportedly made on a budget of around $750,000, Obsession has attracted considerable attention for its box office performance. Sources in the industry claim that the film earned more than $100 million worldwide following its US release, and grossed over $300 million worldwide.
