With massive buzz around Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and Jr NTR's upcoming release War 2, let's take a memory down the lane and a look at a small recap
of the first film. Released in 2019, the film was backed by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. While the prequel starred Tiger Shroff along with Hrithik Roshan in the lead role, the new cast is bringing much craze and attention to Ayan Mukerji directorial. The film marks the Bollywood debut of Jr NTR.
Recap of War
Directed by Siddharth Anand, War was released on October 2, 2019. Made on an estimated budget of Rs 170 crore, the film was a blockbuster, grossing nearly Rs 476 crore at the Indian box office, becoming the highest grossing Indian film of the year. Supporting cast included Vaani Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana.
The film follows RAW Agent Kabir (Hrithik Roshan), who is assigned the task to eliminate a terrorist but instead takes down a veteran RAW Agent, declaring himself rogue. Kabir's former student Khalid (Tiger Shroff) is then tasked with killing him. Vaani Kapoor played Naina, an undercover operative.
As the film progresses, it is revealed that the person posing as Khalid was actually Saurabh Patil, who had assumed his identity after undergoing surgery.
The film ended with both Naina and Khalid dead, confirming that they won’t be returning in the sequel. Naina’s death had an emotional impact on Kabir (also played by Tiger Shroff in a dual role), who was last seen surfing in Sydney with her daughter Ruhi, fulfilling her mother's final wish.
The story concluded on a cliffhanger when Joint Secretary of RAW, Colonel Sunil Luthra (played by Ashutosh Rana), contacted Kabir for an unfinished mission, to kill Farid Haqqani, an Iraqi terrorist.
Khalid is posthumously awarded for his bravery and sacrifice for the nation. His mother receives the award. In the final frame, Kabir is seated with Naina’s daughter Ruhi. He sought her help to track down Illyasi. After learning about the plan, Illyasi kills her.

Now, the sequel, set to release on August 14, will clash with Rajinikanth's Coolie at the box office.
War 2 becomes the longest YRF Spy Universe film
It has recently been reported that the upcoming Ayan Mukerji direction will be the longest YRF Spy Universe film ever. The runtime of the film is 2 hours 53 minutes (173 minutes). The film has got U/A 16+ certification, except the end credits which is expected to be certified separately in the coming days.
