Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups has turned out to be a major disappointment for fans and makers alike. The Yash-starrer, which had been under fire for its
representation of female characters and masculinity, arrived in theatres last month after a long wait. However, despite the massive hype, the film failed to impress audiences and critics. Negative reviews eventually impacted its box office performance and it miserably tanked despite minting Rs 300 crore. Amid this, Bollywood actress Kiara Advani, who plays Nadia in the film, has spoken up about giving it her all. Talking about a key scene, she said that she let it all out despite being drained.
Kiara Advani Breaks Silence On Toxic Amid Box Office Failure
In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Kiara Advani recalled filming a Toxic scene as Nadia and the aftermath of the shot. She said that it left her physically drained. "I had given it my all," she said, adding, "Even though I was drained, I think it had removed everything that I had."
The actress also recalled how the entire cast and crew gathered near the monitor to watch the final scene together, a moment that remains special for her.
Notably, Kiara did not address the backlash surrounding the project or its underwhelming box-office performance.
In the same interview, Kiara said that she doesn't want to "build a box around myself" as an actor and wants to keep taking on roles that challenge her. "Every challenging role should expand the possibilities of what I can play next," said the Toxic star.
Yash On Toxic Backlash
Yash hasn't directly reacted to Toxic's failure. However, his friend Jaidev Mohan revealed that the actor was heartbroken by the film's response.
He told a portal that they had spoken on a call amid the mixed reactions. Jaidev shared, "He said 'don't take it to your heart, it's done, released, now let's leave it to the people. It's their choice. We made this film with dedication and gave it to the audience. That's it. You don't dwell on it too much. Get ready, there's more work. Got it? See you soon'."
Meanwhile, recently, the English version of the film was removed from theatres following its dismal response.
Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups, also starring Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria, is helmed by Geetu Mohandas. The film released in theatres on August 26, 2026. Reportedly, it could incur losses of nearly Rs 300 crore.
