Johansson. The achievement comes as his latest superhero blockbuster, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, continues its extraordinary run at the global box office. At just 30, Holland is reportedly the youngest actor to enter the top three, with his impressive career earnings largely powered by his hugely successful portrayal of Peter Parker in the Marvel franchise. His latest outing has further strengthened his position among Hollywood’s biggest box-office stars. Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained at the top of the North American box office for a fifth consecutive weekend, collecting an estimated $22.2 million from US and Canadian theatres. The latest haul pushed its worldwide total to approximately $2.33 billion. The Tom Holland-led film has now surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, which ended its theatrical run with around $2.32 billion worldwide. With the latest milestone, Brand New Day has moved into third place among the highest-grossing films globally. The current top five includes Avatar at $2.92 billion, Avengers: Endgame at $2.79 billion, Spider-Man: Brand New Day at $2.33 billion, Avatar: The Way of Water at $2.32 billion and Titanic at approximately $2.25 billion. The superhero film has also amassed roughly $891 million domestically. It is now within striking distance of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which sits at around $936 million in North America. If Holland’s film manages to cross that figure, it could set its sights on the unprecedented $1 billion domestic milestone. While Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues dominating the box office, another major talking point this weekend was Coyote vs. Acme. Three years after Warner Bros. cancelled the completed Looney Tunes movie, Ketchup Entertainment finally brought it to theatres, where it opened at No. 2 with an estimated $15.5 million domestically. The $70 million hybrid live-action and animated film, starring Will Forte, John Cena and Lana Condor, received strong audience and critical reactions, earning an “A” CinemaScore and a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars struggled in fifth place with an $8 million domestic debut and $11.3 million internationally. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey remained strong in third place, adding $14.3 million domestically and $48.6 million overseas to take its global total to $1.55 billion.
