What is the story about?
Kareena Kapoor Khan, who plays a no-nonsense police officer in Daayra, has been a part of Bollywood’s grand cop-universe, Singham. Ahead of the release
of Meghna Gulzar’s crime thriller, the team reunited for a press conference in Delhi today (September 16). During an interaction with members of the press, Kareena laughed when asked about DCP Ajooni Kohli’s possible crossover with Singham’s Bajirao Singham, played by Ajay Devgn. Kapoor said Meghna and Rohit Shetty have different approaches to the cops, and she feels lucky to belong to both worlds.
Kareena Kapoor Khan on Daayra and Singham's cop world
At the Delhi press conference, Kareena said, “Har director ka andaz alag hota hai. That copverse is also amazing, and I am very lucky to be a part of two different worlds. It is a compliment for me ki aap mujhe Singham mein bhi daal sakte ho, and I will fit in that film, and put me in Daayra, I will fit in this also. I look at it like this because both are very strong parts of my filmography. I love working with Rohit as well. Itne saare films ho gaye unke saath, Golmaal series hai, Singham hai and now I am working with Meghna which is a different kind of film. Jaise maine kaha, har director ka view alag hota hain, idea of cinema is different. Both come from different worlds.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan on portrayal of female cops
Kareena further praised Meghna for wanting DCP Ajooni Kohli to be feminine and not manly. “There is a stereotypical format that we have of a cop. She has a certain type of walk that’s manly, ek certain reaction deti hai. In this film, because of the sensitivity of the subject, Meghna was certain that she needed a ‘woman’ cop, who is like a woman- feminine but at the same time does everything with a smile and the way you saw her character Ajooni, who walks the straight ropes,” she said before adding that her character doesn’t possess action skills.
About Daayra
Daayra, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, follows the story of DCP Ajooni Kohli and DCP Raman Kumar. Kareena’s DCP Ajooni Kohli is a police officer who believes in the rule of law. She investigates an encounter involving another senior police officer. DCP Raman Kumar represents a far more uncompromising idea of justice. The encounter at the centre of the trailer immediately makes his character the subject of debate.
Inspired by true events, Daayra, delves into a complex crime through two perspectives, exploring emotions, perceptions and the many shades of truth. Following Raazi, Talvar and Sam Bahadur, director Meghna Gulzar once again brings her emotional storytelling to a gritty crime thriller. The film releases in theatres on September 18. Parvathy Thiruvothu has dubbed for Kareena in the Malayalam version of Daayra, that is produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios.
