What is the story about?
After rewriting the rules of the Indian box office with Dhurandhar and its record-shattering sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the franchise may not be done
just yet. Fans of Ranveer Singh’s spy saga have a new reason to celebrate after a major tease from the makers hinted that Dhurandhar 3 could already be in development. While no official announcement has been made, the latest comments from Jio Studios have given audiences hope that Jaskirat Singh Rangi might soon be back on-screen. Given the scale of success achieved by the first two films, expectations for what comes next are already sky-high.
'Not done with Dhurandhar,' says Jyoti Deshpande
In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios dropped a huge hint about the future of the franchise. “We’re not done with Dhurandhar yet. We’ll hopefully have a surprise for the audience later this year," she revealed. Jyoti also claimed there's 'something up our sleeves.'
Though she stopped short of directly confirming Dhurandhar 3, the statement has given us every reason to rejoice. Whether it is a threequel or a spin-off or even a behind-the-scenes documentary, which was earlier being reported, another chance at seeing the franchise come alive on the big screens is huge in itself.
In an earlier interview with Zoom, Jameel Jamali, aka veteran actor Rakesh Bedi had opened up about Dhurandhar Part 3. When asked about the demand of the fans to make another film, Rakesh Bedi had said, “I don't think a third part will happen. But Dhurandhar is a franchise, and it can be made with some other actors at any given point of time. The story ends with the spy going back to his nation.”
More about Dhurandhar
Directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Jio Studios alongside B62 Studios, the Dhurandhar franchise has emerged as one of the biggest commercial success stories in modern Indian cinema. The films transformed Ranveer Singh into a full-fledged action superstar while redefining the scale of Hindi spy thrillers.
The recently released Dhurandhar 2 took the franchise to another level. The sequel followed Ranveer Singh’s Indian spy character, Hamza Ali Mazari on a dangerous mission as he became the undisputed King of Lyari to dismantle terror groups in Pakistan. The ensemble cast added considerable star power to the project, featuring Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun in pivotal roles.
Together, the two Dhurandhar films have reportedly grossed over Rs 3100 crore worldwide. Dhurandhar 2 alone crossed nearly Rs 1800 crore globally, making it the second highest-grossing Indian film ever made. The sequel also broke multiple records, including the biggest opening day for a Bollywood film and the highest domestic collection for a Hindi-language release. It remains the only Hindi film to net over Rs 1,000 crore in India. With all of these records and achievements, we can see why the franchise may continue.
