Legendary singer Asha Bhosle breathed her last on April 12, at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai following a short bout of ill health. Now, as per her final
wishes, the iconic singer’s ashes were immersed in the Ganga at Varanasi on April 20. Asha Bhosle died at the age of 92, the same age her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar passed away in. As per a report by IndiaTV, her son Anand Bhosle, performed the rituals, accompanied by her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle. Following the singer’s death, her son Anand had conducted her last rites the following day, April 13. A week later, the family carried out the immersion ceremony on the sacred banks of the Ganga, performing prayers and traditional rites in accordance with the 92-year-old icon’s wishes. One of Indian cinema's most recorded voices, Asha Bhosle had been cremated with state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Monday, Arpil 13. Her funeral drew fans and followers from every walk of life including political leaders, film industry figures and the aam janta. Bhosle's mortal remains were kept at her residence in Lower Parel in the morning where, members of the music fraternity, artists and politicans visited to pay obesance. Her mortal remains were then taken in a procession to Shivaji Park. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and hid deputies Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar were present at the ceremony. Bhosle's sisters Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Khadikar were also at present. According to the report, Zanai Bhole, Asha Bhosle's granddaughter, was seen breaking down while performing the ceremonies. Asha Bhosle sang her first film song Chala Chala Nav Bala for the 1943 Marathi film Majha Bal, and made her Hindi film singing debut with Saawan Aaya for Hansraj Behl's 1948 Cunariya. After giving over seventy years to music, in 2013, Bhosle debuted in the film Mai, in the title role at the age of 79. Playing the role of a mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease and is abandoned by her children, her act drew favourable responses from critics. Following Asha Bhosle's death, her grandaughter had shared an emotional note reflecting on the love and respect shown to the legendary singer. Stating that she realises she has losther "partner in crime" and "bestfriend" she went on to write that Asha Bhosle was the "definition of Life and Laughter" and added "She’s looking down on us all, especially her family and I believe she’s going to comeback to me very soon, because that is what she promised me and told me always!!" “I have lost the love of my life and there is no bigger grief in the world,” Zanai had further written.
