Ashima Chibber on casting Rani Mukerji in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway
Ashima Chibber praised Rani Mukerji for her performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. When asked about casting her, Ashima said, “Rani is Bengali, and she knew the Bengali mannerism. She knew her craft. She is an intense actress. She has done various characters in her career.”
“When I saw Rani Mukerji, in my head I saw a little tigress with her cubs. I saw a tigress in her. If you try to mess with her cubs, you will die, or she will tear you apart. I wanted that power to come on screen. As a director, I like to have a commercial story along with an intelligent story that will make you tick. You don't see Mother sitting quietly while there is a courtroom drama going on. She is out there hunting for the perpetrators who have taken the children. Rani has that spark which made the film powerful. She is technically so good. It's like the painter knowing their paints,” the filmmaker added.
Ashima Chibber clarified that she was not intending to make courtroom drama. She said, “My intent was not to make a courtroom drama but to show Rani Mukerji being super active in getting her kids back.”

While speaking about Rani Mukerji managing her motherhood and work during the shooting of Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, Ashima Chibber said, “She is able to manage so many things. She would wake up at 5 because she was on Indian time, while we were on Norway time. She would finish the school with Adira online. Then she would come on set and give her 100 per cent. She has an ability to balance home and work at the same time and perform at a constant peak every day.”
