What is the story about?
Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet will lead the new five-part limited series, The Unheard, coming to Netflix from the creative team behind the acclaimed
drama Adolescence. Netflix announced The Unheard at the Edinburgh TV Festival. The show will reunite writer Jack Thorne, who wrote the record-smashing investigative series, with producers from Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, and Plan B. The new show will star Winslet alongside Maxine Peake, of Say Nothing fame. The premise of The Unheard has been called a 'Thelma & Louise'-style vengeance drama, suggesting a story built around sisterhood, crime, desperation, and the consequences of taking justice into one's own hands.
About The Unheard
As per reports, The Unheard is about two sisters on the run after a vengeance mission goes wrong. As they are chased, the series examines what led them to take such a drastic step, and whether escape was ever really part of their plan.
The series will be directed by Mounia Akl, with Thorne writing and executive producing alongside Winslet. The five-episode limited series is slated to begin production next year. Netflix has not yet confirmed its release schedule, though.
From the creators of Adolescence
One of the major attractions of The Unheard is its creative connection to the Emmy-winning Netflix drama Adolescence, which became one of the most talked-about British series on the streaming platform in recent years. The new project brings together a handful of the companies that were behind that success. The series will be produced by Warp Films, Matriarch Productions and Plan B.
Executive producers are Mark Herbert and Emily Feller for Warp Films; Hannah Walters and Stephen Graham for Matriarch Productions; and Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Nina Wolarsky for Plan B. Winslet and Thorne will also executive produce.
Kate Winslet's Netflix debut
This marks Kate Winslet's first big Netflix drama series. The Unheard adds to the actor's notable career of major titles in both films and TV with another high-profile role. Her pairing with Peake also puts two acclaimed British performers at the centre of the series, and the story of revenge gives Winslet a chance to explore a darker dramatic role.
More Netflix titles announced

Netflix head of UK content Anne Mensah also announced other new commissions including a Top Boy spin-off with Barry Keoghan and a new Roald Dahl series based on the author's short stories starring Dominic West, Imelda Staunton and Nicola Coughlan.
