Marvel Studios is officially starting to put together its X-Men reboot, and Kevin Feige revealed the first big cast members at D23. The film, directed
by Jake Schreier, is set to have a theatrical release on May 5, 2028. The casting announcement is a new major chapter for the mutants in the MCU. Disney's purchase of 21st Century Fox had been building for years toward the full integration of the superheroes into its interconnected universe. The announcement also comes just as some legacy X-Men stars are set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, making for an interesting bridge between the old Fox era and Marvel Studios' new spin. Marvel's X-Men Reboot Full Cast - Who Plays What
Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
Sadie Sink will star as one of the most powerful Marvel mutants, Jean Grey. We've already seen her induction into the MCU in the recent blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She has telekinesis and telepathy, the ability to move things around, read minds and unleash devastating psychic attacks. Equally important is her link to the Phoenix. Her introduction could be a gateway into the bigger mutant mythology of the MCU, and eventually open the door to the cosmic-level Phoenix storyline.
Kit Connor as Cyclops
Kit Connor is to play Scott Summers/Cyclops, the disciplined field leader of the X-Men. His mutant power is the ability to fire powerful blasts of optic energy from his eyes, which he controls with his signature ruby-quartz visor. Cyclops, as the team's tactical leader, could be one of the main mutant heroes in the MCU.
Christopher Abbott as Professor X
Christopher Abbott is set to play Professor Charles Xavier, founder and mentor of the X-Men. His incredible telepathic powers enable him to read and control minds, communicate over great distances, and alter memories. He could be key in bringing mutant politics to the MCU and turning Xavier into the ideological bridge between humans and mutants.
Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
Emma Frost is a telepath who can turn her body into a diamond-like form which is extremely durable. Emma has always been one of the more complicated X-Men characters, moving from ally to teacher to moral grey area. Her presence could lead to a higher-level mutant power hierarchy in the MCU.
Inde Navarrette as Rogue
Inde Navarrette will be playing Rogue, one of the X-Men's most recognisable characters. She has the mutant ability to siphon another person's powers, memories and life force by touching them. Rogue's power makes her uniquely dangerous, and uniquely emotional. Her MCU debut could also lead to huge connections with characters whose powers she absorbs.
Maya Boyd as Storm
Broadway actor Maya Boyd will portray Ororo Munroe/Storm, one of Marvel's most powerful mutants. Storm can control the weather, call down lightning, create winds, and alter the atmosphere. Apart from her powers, she's a natural leader in the traditional sense and one of the most important members of the X-Men. She might be another MCU powerhouse.
Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister
Adam Driver is cast as the film's primary villain, Nathaniel Essex, aka Mr. Sinister. Sinister is a geneticist obsessed with mutation, using advanced science and genetic manipulation, as well as stolen mutant DNA, to upgrade himself and create powerful beings. His very existence would tie the MCU's X-Men to darker work in mutant genetics, and perhaps even tease future villains.
This announcement is a huge turning point for Marvel. The studio is creating its own official MCU team of mutants after years of references to mutants and legacy X-Men characters showing up.
